Just installed a towbar and used B-F-C trailer module and wiring all installed ok and trailer lights work but dash trailer indication light stays lit constantly. Question is does the car need coded to tell it that trailer wiring is installed or could it be a fault somewhere?. All lights work as should when plugged in, the trailer light goes out as normal when plug is disconnected.

its 2005/2006 4.2sc l322.

Thanks for any help with this.

I might be reading this incorrectly. Do you mean the little light green trailer light?

Yes sorry the little green trailer light on the cluster comes on and stays on constantly when trailer plug is plugged in no flashing at all, I have tried a lightboard and another trailer into the socket and always the green light stays on, but goes off as normal when the plug is removed.

Have you read your owners manual with regards it?

Checked that, just had another look at it, only mention is 5amp wiring but with extra kit to take it to 15amp, have checked that, and the wiring kit has 2 15amp fuses in it. will try and get pictures of the wiring see if that can help shed light on it. But all the lights work as should on the car and trailer, just the dash green light with the trailer icon is on all the time when plug is in.

I am confused by your question, as I think I am missing something. When you have a trailer plugged in, the trailer icon should show. Is something other than that happening?

On my defenders many years ago, the trailer icon used to flash with the indicators but on my l322 the icon is same as yours, i.e. On all the time the plug is in.

As to what Wazzajnr said I was expecting it to flash with the indicators like it done on my p38 instead of being on constant that's what found strange sorry for any confusion

A range rover easy fix I am all for that. Should have came here first instead of spending 3 hours tracing and testing connections going around in circles.

If the trailer icon stays on all the time with the trailer plugged in, it is not compliant with construction and use regs unless they have changed. There should be a visual or audible indication that the indicators work, on the P38 the trailer Icon flashes with indicator operation.

That is also what I thought there was to either be visual or audible sounding to give notice that indicators are working. Which is why cant figure it out what's wrong hence the question is the trailer light on the dash to stay on or should it flash?. Might the car need hooked up to activate the trailer part of the ecu?

Thanks to all for input.

There is another thread somewhere, by someone who likes to watch her horse, whilst she drives, who had the trailer/indicator issue. A quick search would probably find it, afraid I can't remember her username

All of ours flash the trailer icon/light.

I also seem to remember a possible relay that needs putting in? As above search around on here it’s been covered a few times.

I fitted ours to the L322 2011 and it was all plug and play no extra needed.

I know nothing about the L322 trailer wiring, but on another thread some time ago it was mentioned that there is an ECU needed for the trailer wiring. If that is the case, it may need coding to the car.
