They do spot checks around here about once a year. They seem to concentrate on older vehicles and especially vans.

If you aren't happy or able to pay the high fuel costs, then there are only 2 answers really. Use a more economical car or work closer to home/have home closer to work.
I do just shy of 70/miles a day commute.
only got parking for 2 in town or I'd buy a run about.

I have heard of people having false tanks etc so they test from the bleed at the filter! As others have said, it's not worth it 
Running it on a mix of cooking oil and diesel is more economical, just more smelly lol
I don't know the legality of cooking oil as a fuel from a HMRC prospective though

or depending on your vehicle you could go using some of the vegetable oil you talk about. even straight out of Morrison's it's a pound a liter now.

Almost unlimited, able to come to the house or premises of an offender, and search for anything relevant, no warrant.
And they do. When I was dipped and found to have red in my tank, they turned up at my bosses premises a few days later, and dipped all the vehicles on site. When they were also found to have red in the tank, everyone else got massive fines too.
The savings we had made were outweighed by the fines, and the hassle, to a considerable extent.

I wouldn't condone using red diesel in a road vehicle, but as you have posted about it on the WORLD WIDE WEB, along with a pic of your registration number, I would suggest that you are not really suited to a life of crime.

I used to know a man whos speciality was making special fuel tanks for trucks that were in fact two tanks!
I guess a police state is a concern. I've ben using red stuff for years, and never been a issue. Only difference between red and blue is road tax. The government gets enough taxes fook em. A k or so saving a years is better in my pocket than theirs

In the day's when it was only the colour that was checked [ fuel was a very dark red then ] I knew an old farmer who had a long row of glass jars [ ones used for brewing ] along the wall behind the shed. He filled them with red and left them for about a year in which time sunlight bleached the dye away.

There's been many caught in NI stripping die from fool. Problem is the waste chemical is harmful to the countryside it's dumped in. If flushed down the sewer it's harmful to treatment plants anorl.

Exactly the same here, they are out quite often and always over the brow of a hill with no side roads.
