Hi,
I'm currently updating my old 1963 landrover series 2a with a replacement 5 bearing petrol engine which has been supplied 'dry', i.e. no oil in the sump.
Does anyone know how to put some oil in the filter and preferably the replacement fuel pump before I turn it over. It has been standing in the garage here for about three months whilst I waited for a new chassis,
Alternatively, do I take the plugs out and turn it over on the starter for about 30 seconds, before refitting them and trying to start it?
Best regards
Mike

I like to pop the rocker cover off and drizzle some oil over the valve gear and down the push rods to the cam, nothing you can do for the crank but if it was rebuilt and stored it will already have some oil on the bearings which should be enough to let you spin it up either by hand on the crank handle or by the starter, if you are ultra cautious you could go as far as pulling the plugs to eliminate compression and the then free spinning engine can build oil pressure easily.

Hi All, #
Many thanks for the responses.
Put the oil down the cylinders, started up with the starter i was supplied. fitted an oil filter adaptor so I can use the later oil filters and half filled one with oil. Engine started and runs nicely.
But now have a starter/ engine housing/ flywheel problem, will start a new thread on this one.
