Freelander 2002 TD4 Radio Upgrade

Hi.
Have upgraded my bog standard radio/cassette head unit for a cheap Chinese head unit and after replacing the front left speaker, (due to corrosion), all worked but I wasn't happy with the way the controls worked so I swapped for a new JVC KD-X352BT Bluetooth unit and left the CD changer unplugged, (same as the Chinese radio lash-up). With both upgrades I hard wired the and soldered the connections to and ISO connection pack that came with the Chinese radio.

I'm having trouble with the fade and balance controls on the new unit. Left front speaker is distorted and scratchy when it actually decides to work and the rear speakers are silent.

A converter loom comes with the JVC from ISO to it's dedicated socket and the colours match OK so there should be no issues.
I'm wondering if there is an impedance mismatch between the speakers and the JVC.

Can anyone help please?

Also It would be nice to get the steering remote to work with the JVC if possible.

Never had any issues when swapping to aftermarket radios. Tinny/scratchy sounding speakers could be incorrectly wired speakers.
Check at the actual speakers themselves that you are getting about 6v on both wires to the speakers if not there is an issue with the wiring or the head unit. If the voltage is correct then the issue will be at the speaker. Most after market radios put out slightly higher power then a standard factory radio which can speed up the process of killing the speakers not that common though.

If it worked fine before the radio change then best recheck all connections

I will have another check though everything was working OK this morning with the Chinese radio. I replaced the front left speaker when I fitted that head unit because the original one was so corroded on the cone wiring that when I did a battery test it was dead. I ordered one from eBay and it was from a car so that may have gone the same way because it was a little scratchy.

I remember with the original faulty speaker because it had a fault that it was effecting all the other speakers, probably shorting the output stage of the radio but not enough to blow the radio.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and change out all the speakers and upgrade them.

Does anybody have experience with the steering remote hook up?

Would also like to know more about this, changed mine for cd/Bluetooth unit, speakers working fine for 5mths but now the dvr’s speaker has stopped working...anyone now if there’s a set of speakers that fit...a simple old one out new one in as I’m naff at electrics?

I use a Connects2 adaptor for the steering remote.

It was about £ 20 and works well.
