Thank you.
It seems to change smoothly enough and no bangs ect as I say it's really hard to describe.
I will try get a short video tomorrow and see if I can upload it

Hi all
I'm new on here and new to land rover ownership just a few days ago I traded my jaguar xf for a 2006 discovery 3 tdv6 hse auto.
Has everything I wanted but after just a couple of hours of owning it the seller has blocked all my calls ect and it seems to be failing me more and more every day. please forgive me if I'm not allowed to post on here.
I have a problem and I'm pulling my hair out its driving me mad.
The whole radio and nav system closes down and comes back on whenever it feels like it about every 30 - 60 seconds.
I get a relay click from fuse box area when switches on and off and randomly will either come on with door unlock or ignition and sometimes won't.
Iv checked all fuses and connections on back of the head unit and the screen and nothing to see.
I'm really hoping to find some help on here as I'm at a total loss and rapidly falling out with a car that I really wanted
The radio when it's on works as it should as well as the touchscreen and all volume ect the display also comes up and says phone disconnected everytime it powers back on but not sure if that's normal or not as its never stayed on long enough to attempt to connect a phone.
Iv just tried a hard reset and all that seems to have done is stop the o/s/r door from unlocking so can't open from inside or out
I also have a slight hunting/surging when driving the revs go up and down and its really annoying.
I'm beginning to think iv bought a lemon.
I really wanted a disco and now after just a few days I'm beginning to hate it.
Thank you in advance and I'm hoping for any help at all

Hi

Welcome to the fun of D3 ownership, lol

Don’t loose faith as there awesome vehicles but can sometimes through there dummy out and show weird faults

See what the voltage is at the battery with a multimeter

1) engine off battery voltage
2) engine running with nothing turned on
3) engine running , turn everything on

4) have the egrs been blanked
5) has the map sensor been cleaned

6) try putting a jump lead on the neg post of the battery to a good earth point , does the radio now go on and off

Test all ur light work, inc brake lights etc

Ref gearbox, indeed the red / dextrin oil will destroy the gearbox,

Has the level been checked at the correct temperature

As the gearbox is messing around what ever u do is Do NOT reflash the software in it, resetting it at the moment can cause a lot of troubles

Need to establish other things first , ie correct oil and at the right level before going down that route

There’s plenty of us here to help and can guide u through it step by step to try and find a solution for u

Ref faults , there’s an amber fault and then a red fault , when an amber fault appears it won’t show an error DTC , only red ones do

Having ur own diagnostics is a must with these vehicles, many of us use the iid made by gap , bit expensive at £405 but pays for itself very quickly

See how u get on plse and once we start getting results back hopefully can pin it down

Cheeky fooker, it ay rotten just a bit...scabby :D with...rot...

Hmm dunno then, mine's manual, only experience I have of the autos is driving a fellow forumer's (?) who suspects his torque converter is poo, I can relate it to what you're saying about yours but it needs diagnosing properly. Could be worth banging some dr.tranny in the box (hurrhurr)

Have you had a look at www.disco3.co.uk ? Loads of info and tech advice, I'm gonna tag @gstuart r.e your electrickery, he's a bit of a guru on here

Shucks , ur make me all embarrassed, lol

I got the heated jet loom all fitted , now my windows don’t work so got to pin down why , nothing like a challenge , lol

Thanks at least iv got a few things to try now.
Iv got the battery on charge over night so il check it all over in the morning.
The one thing I really don't understand with the fault is that with a tester I to the wiring at back of head unit theres no loss of power or earth when it goes off which made me think it must be the head unit but then why would the sat nav screen go off as well.
Nothing seems to be logical with this thing lol

Hi

No worries and indeed I’ve learnt with these when getting stressed just walk away and have a cuppa, lol

Ur right , I bought mine 3 x years ago as a project vehicle and virtually rebuilt the thing, but knew that in the beginning

There such nice motors and can through up strange errors

See what ur voltage is after a food few hours coming off charge and at least then we can see what the different voltage test results are

Indeed by not loosing power it does indicate the radio is at fault, everything it interlinked with one another

Here’s a few links for u

U can also charge ur batteries through ur 12s socket, I installed a socket on the front of my house and then drilled through the wall with the CTEK charger in the hallway , so when I pull onto the drive just plug it in

@Rol840

Before I forget

Check both carpets in the front footwells please , ensure there not wet

Also ensure the connectors are sound in the back of the satnav / radio , some can be put in upside down

Thks

Just been thinking and if I could find someone local with the same head unit is it feasible to just swap them over and try it before I buy a brand new second hand one or do they need coding to the car?
Cheers

Egrs don't appear to be blanked and just cleaned map and mas air flow also added another earth from battery to body.
Nothing has changed at all
I'm worried as iv got a family thing today and have to drive from Leeds to Lincoln while still trying to convince the wife iv got a good car and worrying if I'm doing more damage or if it's even going to get me there.
Wish me luck

@Rol840

Plse let us know how ur getting on

If ur still having issues have u check the ecus behind the battery for any ingress of water , checking the pins are all ok, have to lift the battery out to gain access

It does sound like water ingress , but can establish that in time

Everything still the same il check the ecus behind battery but failing that I'm just about giving up don't have the time or money to keep chasing dead ends thank you for all the advise on here though

I'm fairly sure it's a torque convertor issue now after reading symptoms of it.
If you listen you can hear like a slight humming noise while it's surging and almost feels like it's humming in time with itself.
Can't remember what the fault was actually called but was something like torque convertor locking or something.
On the plus side iv fixed the stereo so at least iv got something to listen to when it goes bang I suppose lol
