Hi Guys.
This is my first post. Apologies if it’s in the wrong section.
We are relatively new Landy owners having purchased our truck last November. It’s a 2002 Disco 2 V8 auto with 57k on it and seems to have had an easy life (it’s a Japanese import). All was going well until the boyfriend tried to open it this am. Key fob will arm and disarm alarm but no central locking response. Upon opening the car (with the key) he found a lot of water inside the plastic surrounding the steering column & in driver footwell (We’ve not had this leak before but it’s been very wet & windy here for the last two days). Both sunroofs have had their seals successfully replaced so suspect the windscreen now...?
Once this water was wiped up he started the car and found that the gear selection was a bit hit & miss. It refused to select reverse at one point which was helpful as it was blocking our other cars in....
Also the indicators will work inside the car but no response from the actual lights & no ‘indicator ticking’. The interior door lock switch won’t function either. All fuses checked & found to be ok. The SRS fault light illuminated briefly but has now gone.
Help please?!?
Any suggestions will be greatly received. It’s currently got a dehumidifier running inside the cabin....

Sorry I can't be of any help. I bought a swimming pool... i mean... disco 2 about a year ago... decided the work on it was well above my skill set and swiftly sent it back. Have you considered becoming a freelanderer instead? :D

Welcome MC, sadly I know nothing about Discos, but some will answer..... certainly sounds like the water dunnit to me..... Good luck, A

water ingress is usually the sunroof(s)

As for the gearbox issue it could be the XYZ switch, try giving the selector a thrashing up down up down quite quickly, this usually can remedy the issue.

Also worth checking the gearbox oil, just in case ;)

Hi Henry
It’s been bone dry since we had both the sunroofs resealed but I shall investigate further as they are guaranteed.
Gearbox oil was changed earlier this year but I will check the oil level.
I can’t move the selector with engine running but I’ll try to ‘give it a thrashing’ with engine off.
Still need to sort out central locking & blinkers....
Thanks very much.

Ah it the selector/gearstick not moving when the car is running?

Well you made a good start by buying a LR with a proper engine
Try posting in the Disco sub-section, I'm afraid anything later than the 'eighties is too modern for me.

We like our V8's. Now having had time to explore the site properly I shall try to move my thread to the Disco section. Ta!
