Come and do mine them, I'll pay you £10 and as much tea as you can drink. I think its reasonable I was braced for £350+

I asked if there was anything I can do to prep, I don't mind helping him and paying the man for the skill I ain't got.

Bit more to a D3 tbf

I would say 300 quid is a bargain and I would be pleased if I had to pay for that job.

Heres a boot floor i did in the same discovery.

Whats the going rate for a boot floor change ?

When I was a boy I did loads of car welding as a sideline, terrible shttiy job at the best of time British Leyland crap and all them turdy Fords
The local garages charegd a pound an inch of weld, so a 4x4 patch was 16 quid and that was over 30 years ago, next time one of your mates asks you, first get a price from a garage (you will be shocked) then half it, if mate says to dear he can fcuk right off as hes no mate, theres mates rates then theres taking the pssi..
Car forum I go on most car mechs do their private jobs for mates etc at 20 per hour.

In my eyes welding cars ranks as one of the worst jobs going, even worse than truck tyre fitting.

£280 to patch a sill and you have to make the cuts ?

Im in the wrong job !

The last discovery sill i patched i patched with a brand new inner and outer sill.
Reckon i should start taking on work like this if thats what it pays.

That is some very very nice work, just think how much you could make doing that for a living, always good money for people with a skill and that is some skilled work.

I think mobile welders are bit of a rarity now, the boat club Im in had a right job tracking down a coded welder for some crane jib welding and nearest was 50 miles away, 400 quid I think he charged for about 4 hours work, we have loads of ex welders but coding had to be current for the insurance, to be honest I looked at it and thought wow 400 quid for that!

Thank you.

I have built a nice sized work shop, Ive got more than enough tools for the job, a good welder, benches ect and a 4 foot folder and guillotine all i need is 3 phase fitting to power the guillotine and compressor and im away.

I am considering taking on work like this as a side line its just getting people through the door.

I know a couple of the local garage's near me does not do vehicle welding at all and their mechanic charges are over £75 an hour.

I just have to get my prices sorted out LOL

Pssss any one want any welding doing ?
:)

Thank you.

Wouldn't take long for word of mouth to whip round if you weld to that standard and price fairly. I reckon you could make a living out of it going on pics you've posted

Where abouts in derbyshire are you?

With welding like that you'd have my business was in the market for some, my father in law can weld to same standard as you but wont touch land rovers!

The Brava im doing now, this is a before and after of the front cross member, I had to fabricate the whole thing as you cant buy any thing for them now.

Ive got the body work to do next, the lower part of the front end of the cab which is going to be a bitch to do as its all different shapes at the back.
We will see what happens with that :D

Just remember the old saying, dont be a busy fool, ie not so cheap as to have to rush your arse off to make ends meet, price what you think is fair and keep under the radar so thats at least 20 an hour for you plus grinding/cutting discs/steel/gas/wire/electric etc
Also remember prople are funny sods and dont like to see people do well if they know they are doing it as a sideline, so if under the tax mans radar keep it quiet and only work for people you know or who come recommended.

I would bet as a full time job half a days work 5 days a week would keep you financially secure for the rest of your working life.

Not wanting to sound as if im bragging but Im actually already financially secure .

I dont have a problem declaring what i earn, to cut a long story short im enjoying what i have worked for while im here to enjoy it ;)

Any side line money would be solely for the upkeep and running costs of the workshop.
I have no intention of becoming rich, im quite content with what i have achieved in life already and money just complicates things.

As long as my bills are paid and i have a little left for enjoying im happy.

Thanks for the advice though ;)

Yes I can understand that, but there is no point being busy if people are using you just becasue you are cheap, lots of people are only interested in one thing and thats the price.
You want people to use you because you are good and fairly priced.

Yea i understand that.

My work is quality not quantity.

The Brava im doing isnt actually worth what ive put into it but ive enjoyed what ive done with it and get satisfaction knowing its been given another 10 years of usable life at least.

I was planning on keeping it myself but im not sure if i will yet.
