Can you change a fixed panoramic roof to a sliding one - easily/cheaply?

I'm looking to buy a Range Rover - ex demo or low mileage up to 2 years old. I'm very fussy about the spec. It has to be a 4.4 diesel V8 as well. I've never owned a V8 car and I'm bloody well going to have one before I die, or before diesels become illegal, whichever comes first.

I've seen a beauty - it's a special colour called "Windward Grey" and it's got everything I like on it, right down the the tan leather interior - which I think is superb. Except...it's got one of those "fixed panoramic" sun roofs - and I'm not a fan of them.

I like to be able to open the sunroof, to let a bit of fresh air in. OK so this is mainly just in summer, but the idea of having a huge glass roof that you can't open in summer just seems wrong to me. And I reckon things could get pretty hot in a big car like that with what is effectively a big glass window above your head.

So, I'm wondering how easy it is to have the fixed panoramic taken out and the standard sliding sun roof put in its place? I know in this day and age anything is possible. So I'm pretty sure that it's technically possible, although I don't know if they are the same size? If so then I'd imagine it's just a case of installing the wiring and switches for the sliding roof? But, I've no idea what that would cost?

Anyone got any clue?

Maybe I'm best off just forgetting this car and waiting till one with the right spec comes up?

Of course you do realise that a car like that comes with aircon? Right? Even my Peugeot Partner van has aircon and it gets pretty cold in there within a few minutes, Range Rovers will give you frost bite if you let it on long enough :)

Just weld a big steel plate over the roof. Prevents heating up in the sun, stops the water ingress issues. Job done! :)

Retrofit won't be as good as factory fit. It doesn't get massively hot because of the glass roof. They're tinted black but yer can sea out fromt inside.

Cost eye dun't know. If it's like the Freelander 2 then there will be two sheets of glass. Sun roof openable at the front. Fixed glass at the rear. Eye wouldn't bother paying ter get one fitted. If yer did it wouldn't surprise me if the glass, sunroof mechanism, motors and electric harness set yet back about £2500. But that's a guess. A LR dealer will be able ter advise the cost of parts if yer ask ter talk to their parts dept. Eggspect a days labour ont top. And it's a modification so insurance will need ter be advised.
