Injector oil seal...should I be worried?

Hi guys, I’ve noticed a small leak around one of my 2.2 injector seals...it doesn’t look that fresh but don’t want to leave it if likely to become a bigger issue...would appreciate your views. Thanks

Bear in mind that the pressure at the injectors can be anything between 1500psi and 10,000psi (I CBA to look it up) then ask yourself if it isn't woirth bothering about, or if it is worth fitting a new seal.

Had one go on my Focus diesel a while back. My wife came home saying the car stank and she was feeling unwell. When I opened the bonnet there was a mist of fuel vapor around the engine. Would have only taken a spark and whummph.

In the photo the union nut on the injector feed pipe looks cleaner than the others, has it been replaced at some time and the oil patch just not been cleaned up? I'd clean the muck off and keep it under review before doing anything major.

2000 bar / 29000psi on the 2.2 puma. . I looked it up

I’ve just bought the car so not sure about the history however It has had a service at a main dealer a thousand miles ago so I would have expected them to pick this up - I think I’ll take it back to them to take a look

I'd be inclined to clean it all up and then take it back to where you got it from ... presumably it is still under warrenty?

If it is a leak of combustion gas up the side of the injector, which it looks like, then it COULD be a big deal. If it is leaking combustion gasses it looks like black oil.
Combustion gasses aren't good for you and may get into the cab, you don't want to be breathing that stuff in.
If injectors are left to leak, carbon and gunge gets up the side of the injector body and makes them a real tw@ to remove, I have seen videos where vans have been lifted off their wheels when people have pulled on stuck injectors. You can't replace an injector seal without removing the injector.
In bad cases leaking combustion gasses can damage the head at the site of the leak and you have to get the seat re-cut.
If it is a slight leak then it should be very simple to fix, it would be short sighted to ignore it.

Sparks don't ignite diesel!

... And that's how the old, high pressure, diesel/multifuel blowlamps worked!
Don't see many of them nowadays though
