Was just wondering I have a 1997 disco 1 with single steering wheel air bag, so what I’ve read airbags were a option so I’d like to take advantage of this and remove the airbag system
Question is, was there a different speedo for the ones with non srs or were they the same just without a functioning srs light,
Are later speedo clusters interchangeable

I'd think that the Speedo would be the same just without a light bulb fitted. Not sure what the law is over your way but it is illegal here to remove safety features/equipment from a vehicle and would render a vehicle unroadworthy
The other problem could be with insurance, I have a mate of mine here who's done exactly that, removed the air bag, even taken out the ABS system and converted back to the basic braking system, he's taking a big risk. In the words of Dirty Harry, "are you feeling lucky punk?"

If you've got a passenger airbag then you'll have to keep the steering wheel one regardless of if they are wired up or not  Or that's what I had to do to get an old disco mot'd last year

In a round about way are you trying to tell us that the SRS light won't go out and you got an MOT coming and are looking for an easy way of eliminating it from the system so you don't have to deal with it ever again?

Yep the cars in a right mess, electrical wise! Seems the previous owner started to do away with it I.e no srs Ecu, Cable under coloum to the airbag is just hanging there had the dash out can’t find where it plugs in so I’d say he’s done half a job on it !!!

Well I would be surprised if there were still an actual build sheet for your vehicle so you could effectively swap the steering wheel and pull the lamp and job done but THIS IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK, if there is a problem down the line it's on your own head.

Now, the main thing to remember here is that the 300Tdi Discovery was built all the way up to 1999 with and without airbaggage so it seems it was specification orientated and maybe there is a steering column issue that you might need to overcome?

What is your ultimate aim with the vehicle?

Well up on removal of the dash I found the steering column had a factory sticker on it stating non- srs ‍♀️ I’ve looked up the same year/reg 300tdi’s on flea bay and majority of them are non srs
I brought it as a little project Thinkin it only needed welding up! Being a fabricator fought it’ll b a nice easy lil project! Planned on the odd weekend greenlaning like nothing hardcore

I thought you would have known. But what ever engine that was fitted to the D1 production ended in 1998 when the 1999MY D2 was in the showrooms. SRS was standard in the ES other models it was an option.
1996 and 97 model years D1s it was the same but with the added option of SRS for both sides or just for the drivers side.
Snippets of info I have collected over my 22 years of ownership of a D1. :)

Well if it’s equipped with SRS option both side SRS will be stamped in on the top and center of the steering wheel and for the passenger on the dash top, unless you have the grab handle fitted there of course.
Just the steering wheel with srs, yeah it has the grab handle

Im also interested in this for my old D1 I have removed all the abs & converted mine from auto to manual
I have a raptor steering wheel to fit so I will be diching the air bag, I have another dash from my xs breaker with the handle on the dash, but I haven't got this far yet as im still sorting the lights & indicators
as it has D2 rear lights....
I must put a wanted add up for D2 bumper lights just noticed tonight it just has lenses fitted ffs

This is the last time I buy an unfinished project o_O :D

Ok, so below the SRS steering wheel, when viewed via the drop down flap, you will see some wiring with the yellow sleeve, if so that will confirm that the vehicle is equipped SRS and the steering wheel is part of it.
The ECU if you need to plug a diagnostic unit can be found down below the center cubbybox
