Mine went gray like that when the boots slipped off. Was wet time of year. It does specify hylomar on diff plugs but I’ve always put mine back on dry never had a leak or one stuck in. They do sometimes need a little tighten once they’ve warmed/cooled few times.

20ml :eek::D you won’t do that again. ;)

Borrowed a jet wash for my P38, mostly underneath. Gave it once over then decided to take intercooler out so I could clean all rads out nicely and check if intercooler has more oil in it from first time I took it out. It was still nice and clean but fair bit of water in it from the quick wash so me thinks few holes :(
Underneath is loverly but my garden is strewn in oil, mud, clay and grit :rolleyes:

New fuel filter finally fitted, I poured the old one through a cloth before putting it back in the tank. Was few bits of gritty muddish looking stuff in the diesel from it. Goes smoother again almost feels a shame to have loud gigantic wheels on it. Think my clear pipe is porous and sweating diesel??:confused:

That doesn't sound right!

I have been, I didn’t know it was clear first time I saw it either, plus it has an old NRV looking join in it :mad: Hard to tell as there is slight oil residue still everywhere from when it rolled. Much cleaner over time but looks like a sweat of diesel around the chassis below the pipe rather than the old oil that seems to never go from the EAS box/pipes. It’s not big but notice it is always moist. That pipe is stupid money

Atleast it’s washed down so can distinguish what was old leak fixed and what’s going on now :)

Finally got round to putting the handbrake back together. I have been running around without the innards for the last month (was meant to be a week but the doris had other projects on the to do list that were obviously more bleedin important) anyway, my mysterious noise has not been happening without the shoes etc so I am fairly sure it were the H'brake that was the culprit.
Left the adjuster slightly on the loose side so I get 4 clicks on the handle instead of the usual 3, it will just about stall at that so it's right enough for me at the moment.
Have to see how it goes but no noises so far so a big thanks to everyone who took an interest and suggested fixes.

Put new brakes all round on mine last year and the hand brake is still crap, pretty sure the hand brake shoes on brother in laws vectra are bigger than those on range rover !

Sh*tpart shoes? Material too hard?

Mine's fine now I got all the ATF out from the duff seal Ashcrofts had fitted.

^^^ IF engine cuts out and you have no brakes, USE IT. It is better than nothing and better to have ruined props than a 2 1/2 tonne bowling ball. It definitely jiggled about in the drum could hear it

Ask me how I know....
I very nearly s**t myself, quite literally.

Given an emergency it is acceptable collateral. I have no signs of damage to shafts itself but my very-front UJ was worn badly and replaced recently - maybe from that as it started around then gradually getting worse. There were few things wrong with it back then so hard to tell exactly.

The engine cutting out does not affect the brakes on a P38, the assistance is provided by the electric pump not vacuum from the engine.
