Re-registering a vehicle in Spain

Hi All,
I'm trying to re-register my ex-military 1986 110 to Spanish plates and have a number of problems. There's no type approval No. or engine No. on the log book and it says first reg. in 2003 although it was built in 1986.
Do landrovers have a type approval No. and has anybody else registered an ex-millitary vehicle in Spain and did you have any problems?

Hi there. Did you ever manage to get your 110 registered? I'm looking into getting my 1986 (civvy) 90 registered and keep hitting brick walls (not literarily, luckily!).

This is a very old thread. Best start a new 1 and am sure @Shippers will pop in on your new thread he’s in Portugal and I know they have similar issues. Don’t forget to mention your new chassis :(

Will do if I can help but need more info re-vehicle and status...update on my on going status now speaking to authorities behind agents back Fed up with excuses but still getting nowhere...hey ho welcome to Southern Europe at least it was bloody hot here today...
 
Thanks for the reply Shippers. You're not ex-Navy are you, with a name like that? My story is that I've had a 1986 V8 90 for over 20 years and like most old Land Rovers, it's changed a bit since it left the factory. It was originally a CSW and the main changes are:

Hard top removed and replaced with a bespoke soft top.
Safety devices roll bar
Rear step bumper - LR genuine part
Pivlock swinging spare wheel carrier
Front A Bar and fog lights - LR genuine parts
Galvanised chassis - Richards
Polybush bushes
Front centre seat replaced with cubby box - LR genuine
Rear seats removed
Discovery rear axle casing fitted (for the disc brakes)
Kenlowe electric fans
Janspeed SS exhaust

It was my daily transport to work for many years and is now having a bit of a spruce up now that I've retired. Mrs T and I have also just bought an apartment on the Costa del Sol, which we intend to use to run away from the Scottish winters. We'd love to have the Landy in Spain, as it would be ideal (and it deserves some time in the sun as much as we do!). The problem is that all the companies we have contacted about registering vehicles in Spain shy away because of "all the modifications". We will be applying for temporary residency as we will be there over 3 consecutive months but (at least for now) will keep under the 183 day limit in any one year. We would leave the car in Spain (garaged), so would need it to be on Spanish plates so we can get an annual ITV.

Any advice gratefully received! There seems to be a lot on the internet, but much seems to be conflicting or vague (or maybe that's just me being dim).

Haha no connection to Navy but I am originally from Edinburgh.

I can give you my thoughts on reg but they are based on here in Portugal so might differ a bit..

1. The C.O.C. is supplied by Land rover and the specs on it will be to the original type in your case a CSW so at the inspection that is what they want to see it may differ from the V5 but that is what they want...it covers number of seats\Windows and wheel and tyre sizes and other bits as well.
2.The replacement chassis might be problem if they go looking for a number on it..
3.Roll cage is not spec so doubt that will pass.

It took me 3 agents to get my process accepted due to out of date paperwork and even now still waiting.
Do not go to an online C.O.C supplier as the certificate won't have the hologram on it they won't accept down here with out it I got mine from the main dealer.
Don't know about import tax in Spain but my V8 101 was going to be around 14,000€ to matriculate but as it was built with only 2 seats originally was accepted as a commercial which was zero rating
worth checking that out.
My advice to you would be to go to a main dealer and ask what specifications are on the C.O.C.
