Shaking at the wheel, and squeaking underneath, at a guess its the U.J. and will need a change, is it worth changing the U.J.? or just the whole prop (second hand)

They do tend to shake and squeak when you are on top of the missus.
I'd do the UJ, a second hand prop may also have duf UJ's.

Prop should be fine, you’ll know it’s ujs if you take them out, if not just pop them back in. My P38 is sitting there with it’s shaft hanging out now, waiting for the UJ. They seem to be bugger to get, eBay was cheapest in end, watch the Chinese knock offs though

Tvc100010 - I payed £13.80 free delivery for GKN single unit. Come in pairs too, LR is about £50 each

Never a good thing to leave your shaft hanging out o_O:D

When I was looking at UJ's I see some "Heavy Duty" ones, is there such a real thing? off roading maybe, I have my doubts though

All the P38 ones should be the heavy duty ones. Part numbers are in my hardy-spicer thread I think ... yep: GNK Hardy-Spicers. 75mm end to end; 27 mm caps. Gallery approximately 18 mm. These should be the TVC100010 heavy duty ones with a grease nipple.

Thanks m8, yes they are, I just noticed when looking he has put the price up, he must have had them wrong!!!!

Glad to hear GNK are HD, I thought for what I payed it was a Cheapy. Did it on mates laptop so don’t have the link to paste I will look now dopes

There are HD UJs available for car applications such as track/drift/rally. How much stronger I don’t know? One difference is they do not have a gallery through them or grease nipple as it’s a hole/weakness. They must use ‘pack for life’ like cheapos but are not cheap as such

Something to note. GKN kits come with long grease nipples. These get in the way of installing the prop shaft and have to be installed after the prop is attached to the vehicle. If you have short ones installed on your current UJs, they are worth popping out and using instead.

Also, remember to remove the grease nipples before pressing out the old UJs. I completely forgot on the first one I did. Turns out they are no match for a 20t press.

Q. If one keeps ones nipples well-greased does this prolong the life of the UJ far beyond that of the non-nippled variety?

I think it just stops water from getting in a rusting them up, but who dont like a greased nipple eh?
