There are few patches of crud look like they have shot out the hole in my mid-back box pipe. I did rev it up after 10mins once it had chance to mix and flow thoroughly. My one silver suspension strut has had black thrown over, it wasn’t like that before.

Nobody in their right mind pours water into the inlet of any engine. If the engine is revved to half throttle then a fine mist of water is sprayed in it does help to decoke the combustion chamber.

You could also try driving in foggy weather with no air filter ,Some old school mechanics ,Say it was beneficial ...Made cars run sweet.

I hydrolocked an engine once going through a flood. One of the connecting rods came out the engine and sliced the starter motor in half. Block was totally smashed.

Rover v8's do that automatically around 100k don't they?

With ATF? - Do tend to go off on a tangent

If I take head off itl never end!
Started off only changing fuel filter, which is still not done,
I’m now on to having it up with all wheels off, flushing engine, oil change, cleaning chassis up, unsticking callipers and UJs while having lifts to work

As pointed out re. Rover v8s, stream cleaning works, but for the love of all things holy, that guy squirted half an ocean into the air intake pipe!! Much more controlled if you were to use a spray bottle and the small droplets are much more likely to get up to temperature to do the job.

There is a machine they use that will clean it with water, not like that though. It uses a computer to control a mist through not glug it in, you can hear that engine don’t like it.

Apparently best is strip it down and sandblast it with ground walnut

modern diesels dont need a decoke, its pointless

Not really getting this rampant need to clean this old motor..

Only dervs i've needed to decoke were old 70's and early 80s Perkins units.

Well my EGR P38 did when i changed the head gasket, not overly but needed never the less. Build up on inlet valves and tracts and of course more so on exhaust side.

an earlier egr inlet manifold is likely to be gunked up but water or any other cylinder treatment isnt going to help that ,removing inlet and physical cleaning is the answer for that ,cylinders and underside of head dont need de-coking

Never said it would do anything for inlet manifold. I said a fine spray at half throttle helps to decoke the combustion chamber.

My alloy inlet was pretty clean when I took that off just oil pushed through from turbo over years. From what I could see from the top of the valves they looked decent.
I’m in no way going to put water in my chambers. It’s getting mixed up with the original conversation.

‘95 push rod engine is old to me? It is running a lot better with just basic maintenance and getting crap out from when I first took ownership.
Il have the head off one day then we will see
