I appreciate this is a Defender thread, but it's sorta related.

I have some old ATF III (which I think I used in an old Defender 300TDI, but now can't be sure and am questioning myself) lying around. However my manual for my Disco 300TDi says that I need ATF IID.
I can't seem to find a clear answer about the differences and if it really matters what I stick in the power steering.

Any thoughts?

Dexron ATF llD has been superseded with Dexron lll which is suitable for the newer multi speed auto gearbox, but Dexron lll is backwards compatible with llD, there’s lots of info on the Dexron specification on the web.

Smashing thank you.
In that case, I suspect that last time I went down the rabbit hole, I was sticking the ATF III into my Defender.
