Rears were bad

Had to kick the wheels off and clean the hubs up, everything was well rusted up

Anyway, main concern is this wear on both rear tyres. This is the worse of the 2, cords are showing. Is this just from alignment being out of whack or something more sinister??

Can't believe I've missed this

I'll check for play in all the rear suspension, hoping I'm just in for 2 new tyres and an alignment!

Yo wheel alignment looks out on the bimmer, just sayin ;)

How you enjoying the D3? Seems way more practical than the DCPU was with the van and all that.

Yerr it's fooked ay it...

D3's awesome mate, it scares me sometimes if I think too much about the maintenance lol but I can't think of another car that'll do everything it does as well as it does. It's awesome at towing, but feck me they're complicated! Price you pay i suppose. I don't miss the double cab anyway so it must be ok ;)

Get your tracking done by all means but from the look of that tyre I'd say its been run flat so the rim is putting direct pressure on the outside of the tyre, usually tracking wear is over a wider area of the tyre edge so the first lot of groves would of been chewed as well

Good shout, checked entire tyre over and sure enough, it's picked up a nail! there's similar wear on the other side but not as bad so maybe a combination of tracking and that one being low? Usually the tyre pressure warning comes up on the dash. These run flats are crap man, there's that much rubber in em and the profiles only 35, they never look or feel flat.

There's a lot of negative camber dialled in from the factory I think which is another factor. I don't think those square speedhumps do any good either, the wife flies over em...

R.e grinding noise mate

Left hand turns, starts when wheel is at about 20° and revs above 1500, get a grind/rumble can be felt thru wheel and pedals a bit and seems like front right side but am aware sound can travel a fair bit. I've had matey sit in the boot and he thinks it's coming from the front of the car as well.

Same symptoms when fully loaded towing uphill.

Diff had new carrier bearing that side, new front prop and new timken front wheel bearings.

Worth mentioning rear prop centre bearing has play so that needs replacing.

I'm hoping driveshaft or maybe rear wheel bearing but that's probably unlikely. Worst case is diff again.

Plan is to get it on stands this weekend and get wheels off and run it. I've ordered a stethoscope hopefully narrow it right down....

Hiya

Just out of curiosity and hope it’s not rude question have u ensured the steering wheel angle has been reset and does indeed say zero plse

Only reason I ask if if it’s out the DSC can kick in, makes a sounds like a very quick vibration

Just a thought mate

Time to get a gap iid, lol , indeed shame ur not closer as I could have plugged my iid in and done a print out

Its on the cards ain't it! Got the intermittent suspension fault as well so will defo need it to sort that myself.

Did read a bit about steering angle but dsc light doesn't come on when it happens so kinda discounted it. Can I check steering angle without diagnostics? If it helps I've got just under 2 full turns of the wheel lock to lock both sides

Must admit after buying one ur wonder how u managed without one,lol

Will the fault happen as u turn left , have u also tried disabling the DSC on the dashboard , as when u press DSC button a light will come up to advise u have activated the cross link system in the valve blocks , so the D3 will act like a live axle setup , it works out where the wheels are and pushes one side down as one side goes up on the same axle

However it can be at least a dozen other things causing the issue seeing there’s so much tied in with each other through the CAN bus system

Even blown bulbs can cause all sort of issues

Please don’t ever think ur on ur own here as there plenty to help u, is nice where we all help each other to get the job resolved

Did I see this as I posted it the other day, there were no replies so assumed knowing was interested lol

Have you got the 4x4 info screen? as a guy on the d3 forum used the pic to on the screen to set up his steering angle sensor.
Tyre pressures also cause all sorts of weird issues
All tyres same make/size/tread depth? if different makeS well worth actually measuring them.
