3 amigos on dash

Afternoon everyone

So i bought a td5 with gearbox fault and few other little problems. All sorted now except the 3 amigos on dash ( no problem i thought,simple wheel sensor....oh no!! ) plugged in my nanocom,no communication with wabco ecu. Thats strange i thought?? So i plugged into my other disco td5,no problems at all. So i cleaned the earths under bonnet,then found out theres some below glove box. Let me add at this point, theres a water leak in this area . I removed the glove box and kick panel and found most plugs had corrosion on the plugs-ok thats my problem then. Cleaned all the terminals and plugs best i could and re-tried nanocom. Still no coms! I then found the earth plug by the other plugs,and found the nut was lose. Thats strange how thats lose. I cleaned it up,retightend but still no coms. My faults are-no speedo,no rear suspension lift,3 amigo lights on and no communication with the ecu. Any help would be massively appreciated

No nothing serious . Mot is up in june,so need to get on it. It may be the abs ecu knackered? I could try swapping with my other td5. One is auto and other is manual-not sure if it matters? Im hoping someone will say all the faults run through this plug or from this ecu. Any one know what plug or wire coms go through? I hate electronic faults! Give me mechanical over electrical any day!

Hi Gareth, I have a Freelander and I did have the "Two Amigos" a number of times. So I looked it up, it seems there are various and different options, mostly related to the "Three Amigos" on the Discovery more often than the Freelander. Including in the many of various answers is something about the brake pedal light switch, when applying the brakes, the switch may get stuck or something, result in Amigos signal coming on. As a temporary means until I get it fixed, I tend to slow down then give the brake pedal a quick tap to turn it off. I was planning on getting it fixed, for some reasons I can't figure out, it had been sorted.

It may be worth a try, to start checking the brake pedal first, find any problems, specially with the brake pedal light switch. Then work on all parts related to the brakes like the cables, controls, discs, etc., and see what happens. If it sorts out your Three Amigos, great! But if it did not, then it could be other reasons.

The brakes are one of the reasons why we get the Amigos signal, Three Amigos in the Discovery most common, and Two Amigos in the Freelander sometimes.

Hope your checking your brake lights themselves are working. No point waiting to fix the switch if the brake lights themselves not displaying.

Well i took the truck for a drive today actually, and the lights went out. This is after cleaning the plugs. I can now communicate with the abs ecu. I still aint happy with the plugs. I am going to give them another clean tomorrow and get some dielectric grease for them. Hopfully that will sort it. OH and i found the cause of the corrosion. The one drain tube pipe had snapped,so all rain water on the roof was allowed a free pass into the headling. This tracked down the left hand side,down into passanger footwell and on to the plugs. Must of been p##sing in for previous owner
