Long bolt on bottom of rear hub

hi has anyone any idea why they put one long bolt holding lower link bar and tracking adjuster and surly you could change this to two single bolts without affecting tracking adjustment. As I cannot see how changing it over should be a proplem

Is it not a shouldered bolt ?

Don’t think so Haynes manual say just bolt. And it’s just a long bolt no tapers at all. So was thinking as these seem to always rust to bush sleeves and are a cow to remove. Was to replace them with two bolts well greased washers either side which should in theory stop them rusting to bush sleeves. Has anyone else done this or am I way of base ?

FL1 I would think. That has a long bolt on the rear suspension.

You can buy them easily enough should you ever need to and once removed it's easy enough to fit the new one.
Mind they're a right B*@%^&$d to get out.

Yea alibro a bas**rd to remove think due to being open on both insides where they go through the stub. hence why I was thinking of changing to singles. And trying to find out if it’s needed by design or just another bean counter saying one bolt cheaper than two over thousands of cars

So any tips on removing the long bolts? Mine are seized in place and need to replace the bushes. But don't really want to remove the hub completely due to brake lines etc...

If bush’s gone try heating bolt threads and if have one rattle gun the bolt that’s how I done mine. Took a while but got there in the end lol

Cut the centre out of the long bolt, and beat on the bushes, to get them out the hub carrier. The long bolt normal seizes solid in the bushes, so violence is normally needed to extract them.

Yip, you're not gonna get them out easily unless you have a powerful rattle gun. Last time I had to do what Nodge said and cut a bit out of the middle with a grinder then beat them out.

So did I. I actually have a set of polyurethane bushes to fit to mine, but I've put it off as I can't be doing with an extreme workout at the moment.

Give em a good soak with plusgas every day for a week and you might have an easier time.

Have a dewalt gun 1600nm of torque think that will be powerfull enough but still think its gonna give me a hard time

The bolt seizes in to the bush, so that's the difficult part of the job. I use a large lump hammer and long chisel to get them out, once the bolt is cut into 3 pieces .

After removing the first bush by undoing the nut, I carefully cleaned the exposed bolt shaft with a Dremel. The shaft slipped through easily once I got it stared with a mallet
