Since I got my TD5 remapped, I would like to fit a pyrometer to keep an EGT. Should I just tap in the Exhaust manifold where the pipes meet? Min has not EGR, if that is relevant

It's preferable to do it at the collector near the turbo as you say, but a lot tap the EGR blank on the stock manifold because if that cocks up you just need a new blanking plate.

hmmm, but min has the egr cooler still fitted. The blanking plate is fitted close to where the EGR originally was. maybe i can also remove that?

That's how mine is

Ah OK, I thought you meant it didn't have the EGR when you wrote that. In this case tap the collector on the manifold. And for boost tap hose between the intercooler and the EGR body.

It does not have the EGR, but it still has the EGR cooler.

If you are wondering how to bring the wires into the cabin, follow the bonnet release cable, it goes into the engine bay through a rubber grommet, i pushed a steel wire through the rubber, hooked the wires and pulled them in, the position is also good cos you need feed there which is close in the fusebox

i usually use a hole where there used to be a blanking rubber, also driver side (UK). I think there should also be a similar blanking rubber on the other side (i think used on US cars), which would be quite convenient since I already have loads of accessories going through that hole :)

Sorry, needed coffee :)

So does that mean that the EGR pipework is still attached to the exhaust manifold but the other end has been blanked? If so, same thing, tap the manifold. You could remove the cooler and manifold piping to fit a manifold blank but obviously that's more work.

A photo might clear it up if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

What gauges are you using, a madman or individual ones?

Yes, exactly. I do not think using that plate would give an accurate readout... firstly it is quite far away, and there is still cooling happening there. The cooler looked like a b***h to remove, so I left it there but will see how difficult it would be to remove...

I am using SAAS gauges. Not my favorite in terms of how they look but there is a decent selection of dual input gauges... for instance boost & egt, and water temp & oil pressure.

Bought a new one cos the old one didnt look well and "prepared" it before fitting....i used a bit of loctite 567 thread sealant on the sensor and that's all, no probs

makes sense... mine still looks good, guess I can prepare in place, after removing the hose and draining the coolant, obviously.
