Hi I have a freelander 2 and the battery is dead I can't get in using the key of my fob so any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks in advance Barry

Get a piece of cloth put a brick in it and crack a glass quarter. Next look shifty so your neighbours can used the CCTV cameras to capture your plight. If any neighbours query then do a runner up the avenue. Once you've managed a reasonable distant stop. Then return while mumbling to yourself "It my car idiot" several times until reach home. If lucky the Police will be there to help and maybe offer a solution to your distress as you have run in your mickey mouse underwear and pit boots. Hopefully a better solution from more experienced Freelander 2 drivers:po_O

If the vehicle battery is dead and the emergency key doesn't work, then your pretty limited by what you can do. About the only thing you can do is to charge the battery. Access might be difficult, but you need to power it up somehow.

Have you tried to lubricate the door key hole?

Yes I have tried wd40 in the lock but I have been informed that if the battery is completely dead that the key won't work because it has a deadlock so I am completely out of ideas except for breaking the rear quarterlight but I didn't want to go to that expense

To unlock the door, and possibly the ignition too. He has a Defender, which has locks from biblical times, so any old implement works as a key.;)

Have you tried your emergency key in the passenger door?
Yes I have tried the key in the passenger door but no luck I've been told it needs some power in the battery for the key to work but mine is totaly flat

That's a start.

No. The passenger door lock is a mechanical lock, so will work, even on deadlocks. I expect the key has rusted up, which can happen unfortunately.

If you're going to break a window, then do it on a door, not a bonded window like the rear one's. A door glass is a DIY job, but a bonded window definitely isn't DIY.

Your best bet and non damaging course of action is to remove the engine under tray, and try to charge the battery, by connection to the main battery charge wire at the alternator. ;)

No not got in yet just about given up on it was going to break one of the side windows but didn't really want to do that
Have you removed the under tray and applied power to the alternator main charge wire? If not then that's the only way to open it. If it was locked with the remote, then breaking a window still won't allow you to open the doors.
