It looks like either a burst crown wheel jammed in the casing or siezed brakes. If brakes have been over adjusted they heat up and lock on, then cool and free off.

Well she’s in the garage so await their call. I drove the Landy down this morning and was really crawling in only front drive. Probably 20MPH in 4th gear. It there a reason for this or is it just because she was in 4WD??

where you in low ratio? should drive as normal just a little notchy on steering due to the UJ,s in front axle.

I’d say yes I probably was but not sure how I change it ? I’m thinking it’s for something to do with the control down by the passenger footwell???

The lever with the yellow knob is for 2 or 4 wheel drive, down for 4x4. The lever with the red knob is for hi or low. Forward for hi back for low. If it is in 4 wheel drive. Pull the red lever back then forward again and it will go back to 2 wheel drive, or leave it pulled back for 4x4 in low.

So the garage say it’s definitely the rear diff. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a new/refurbished or where I can get the one I’ve got refurbished???

Agreed, its a fairly simple, all - be - it precise bit of engineering. I think I would get the vehicle home and take the diff out (~I'm assuming its a Rover axle). Once its on the bech the problem should be clear, take some phtos and post them on here. Then people who have repair diffs can tell you whether it repairable or not and how best to go about it. Parts are reasonable, a whole crownwheel and pinion is under £100, the bearings £30 a pair so a rebuild could be under £200 in parts.

Have you not asked the garage that diagnosed the fault?...don't see the point of taking advice from anyone else...

The garage have said it is definitely the rear diff. They have removed it and it’s in the Landy now. I’ve looked and don’t really want to take things apart so does anyone know where I can get it refurbished???

As mentioned above, take some photos and post them on here, those that know will be able to tell you what's wrong with it, what parts you need and probably where to get it fixed.
