IIRC, that was the D23 ... but ... the D40 has plenty of other "maladies" to make a similar impression on your wallet - like timing chains failing ....

The new NP300, being mainly ren@ult is somewhat worse... allegedly

If you CBA, have a nosy on the tube of u for the videos from West Yorkshire Engine Services - the list of problems, and their causes make for pretty scary watching

If you like bodywork welding, a D1 300tdi or V8 you can always LPG it. If you like chassis welding and electronics, a D2 TD5, (I'd avoid the autos if you can) again a V8 which again you could LPG. Depends on how much wedge you want to throw at it and how patient you are. I have examples of three of these four versions and love them all but they all need the typical work. I'd sell you one if I could bear to part with it. But I can't!

I was particularly impressed by Ni$$an "customer service's" attitude to the "problem" too.... and the fact that what was supposed to be a chassis was actually "made" of Hydroformed "steel", and thus cannot be economically repaired ... ..... so much so, that I bought an 18 year old D1, which incidentally, does more to the gallon, costs less than half what the PU cost to insure ....etc., etc.,

He ain't got much nice to say about the injectors going faulty and diluting the engine oil has he? And agree r.e np300 being renault engined. I like his vids, he's an enthusiastic bloke I think who's just getting ****ed off with nissan.

@Charles Banbury I'd recommend D3 same as @lynall said, if you don't mind having a go yourself or have decent funds behind you. But I believe landys work better when they're used regularly, and a D3 is a lot of tech for an occasional tool!

Audi A4 Avant Quattro - can be had for about £2500 for a decent car, big boot for the tip, winter tyres on it with Quattro away you go in the snow

..cos it is yet another set of Electronics to go wrong, Google "M & S lights" to see what I mean,
also takes more fuel to turn 'em.
Cannot get lock-up in top gear under 56mph so cruising on French A roads means using yet more fuel.

Mind you Dual mass flywheels are a crock of unnecessary sh1t! too.

They told me “ obviously we cannot repair them all”, I bought a six month old ranger, nissans promise of 20% turned out to be 7% discount at best !

Who said anything about a D1 auto? I said specifically, D2. D1's don't have hardly any electronics at all, which is why I prefer them.
As for Google, then use the search engine of your choice, But you'll still find D2 autos with electronic issues, I know, I am that soldier!
