I have 16" 5 spoke alloys on the car ('05 TD4), I think they are called Freedom. I noticed that my spare (taken from my old '01 1.8) has small holes between the wheel nut holes, but the four on the car don't.
Does any one know the reason for the holes (or dimples)?

Cheers

My missus' ford ka has similar recesses in the wheels. It has sticky out pointy nuts which hold the front discs and rear drums to the hubs. The pointy bits help locate the wheels when fitting. Maybe the same on the earlier freelander??

That's correct. ;)

The early 01 up to 03 ish alloy wheels had the holes.

I believe that the wheel manufacturer used at the time, did them that way, possibly as jig alignment holes.
