New Project Series 3

Ok so for some reason i decided to buy a Series 3 88 with no engine it has original gearbox for the 2.25 petrol and previous owner had a 4track diesel engine installed before deciding to use it in something else . im looking at putting a 300tdi in it, will it work with the original gearbox ? im new to projects but i have a good mechanic who seems to think anything is possibe. I will be buying a donor vehicle rather than just an engine once my Disco has sold. Any advice aappreciated

What engine and Gearbox is in your Disco?

yh, im selling that one tho and buying a scrapper with a good engione . it is a 300tdi but its solid too good to use to rip into

Need to figure out if a 300tdi will fit on the original gearbox, the mechanic reckons hes looked into it and it is possible but before i go and buy one i think i just wanted some reassurance . the S3 will be my daily when im not on my bike so needs to be reliable it will also be used for green lanes and play days possibly

I've got my Defender 90 head on...
Wouldn't have thought you could sell your disco for very much and it would be more valuable to you as spares - engine gearbox axles etc.

Looking at the price of 300Tdi engines on Fleabay, with suspect quality, I'd have preferred keeping a good one that I know.

The engine will fit the series gearbox just need to remove a stud from the adaptor plate the one at 20 past and maybe a dowl but the engine mounts won't as they are in a different place on a 300 tdi engine and won't fit the mounts on the chassis unless you can or get someone to fabricate some.

Sounds like a good project. Don’t forget some pics as it progresses!

A Disco 200Tdi is a straight fit (as far as I know!) bolts on to the Series engine mounts and matches up to the gearbox.....
