hi guys n gals

P38 96/97 p reg 4.0 v8 manual
can anyone tell me where my obd2 plug is I can’t find it. I have the open book symbol on heater screen. Can’t turn heat up or down there both on high but I get warm air drivers side and cold on passenger side ?

Only had rangie just over a week all ran fine till 3 days ago when all of a sudden at a junction she started to hunt really badly on idle and stall. So new plug and ht leads fitted no joy still the same ‍♂️

Low range ? Is there a trick to engage it ? I press the button the lcd in dash flashes up select neutral so I did a light flashes bottom corner of speedo but goes out after 3/4 flashes ?

ODB2 plug is in the passenger footwell, up in the right hand corner.

If you don't have P38 specific diagnostics it won't tell you much though, these cars predate mandatory ODB2 availability, so you need specialised equipment to connect to them.

I have Delphi your right I just checked the Delphi list no p38 ‍♂️ Oh no Any idea how much LR would charge for diagnosing??
 
As for low range selection, I take it you have a manual?
I have only ever had auto which is all just done on the H gate.

Not sure if you need to have clutch and brake pedal pushed Aswell as being in neutral. Before pushing button.
But I would guess that the motor or mechanism is seized from lack of use.

Edit : just checked my manual and high to low can be selected if car is moving (but very slowly)

Keep the clutch in when engaging Lrange, you should be stopped. Often they seize if it hadn't been used or neutral switch is knackered so it doesn't know. The orange cogs flash until it goes in, if it senses something wrong it ceases operation - like yours is. It will say on dash 'low range' when it works

Sometimes clutch out, quick rev in neutral and then try again with clutch in can help. Do it when stationary.

You'll see the motor on the back of the transfer box. Check connectors all good. It only has 3 or 4 bolts so you can whip it off and turn the triangular thing by hand to move it to low.
 
If it is not selecting low range and flashing select neutral it could well be the plastic saddle on the selector rod not telling the switch it is in neutral as it is broken or moved
there was a LR tech bulletin on this, mine was the same, the easy way is to unplug the the connector off the switch and put a jumper wire across the pins, so it thinks its in neutral, just Dont press the low range button when not out of gear and stationary .
 
F*ck taking that box out again. I've been in there twice. If she chews another clutch I'm throwing in the towel

I am in now rush to go down that route again but if needs must its not that bad with transfer box removed, recon i could do it all in a day.
Dam site easier than my mates Renault traffic they are night mare bumper rad pack exhaust sub frame the list goes on never again:eek:
