Hi just got myself first defender but got a problem it won’t start when it’s hot any help pls appreciated td5 2.5 ???

You need to get a suitable Rover diagnostic tool on it. One possibility is a dodgy crank position sensor. I have heard of them becoming unreliable when hot and it is about the only sensor input that would stop the ECU from starting the engine. Good news is that if it is the CPS it is a cheap and easy DIY fix. The bad news is that there are a lot of other things that could be the problem. Without a diagnostoc tool you could wind up replacing a lot of good items without finding the fault.

The chap I got it off has had a lot done but no sensors I think? I have also heard fuel temperature sensor ? It sounds like sensor the way he describes once you stop and try to restart it just turns over with nothing there coughing or trying to start,I get it Friday so am determined to get it going as is my first Land Rover always wanted a defender thanks

Are you saying it does not even turn over?
EDIT, just re read, I see it does. Doh, must read rather than trying to do 2 things at once.

Cheers

I have had the crank sensor issue,
It made the car really hard to start when hot. Plus it eventually stopped the car whie driving. Would restart , drive 5 miles then die, cool down , restart drive 5 miles then die!.

I used my nanocom to diagnose the issue.

Cheers

No starts fine just when he’s gone some where and turned it off wouldn’t start for half hour I get it Friday can’t wait so I can run it turn it off and see and hear for my self

There’s been no prob running but just when he stops,I don’t no if is every time he stop eaver but to me the way he says just turns over with out any attempt to start sounds like sensor as if somethings not allowing it to start what about this fuel temperature sensor ? God I’m no mechanic lol

I don't think that a faulty fuel temp sensor would prevent engne start. As far as I am aware the only sensor that will do that is the crank position sensor.
Could be lots of other things though - you need to get a diagnostic tool onto it before you part with the cash.

I’m now gonna call a Land Rover tech close to me see about getting it looked at,I’m getting for a v good price so gonna get it fixed even if it cost a fare bit still gonna be bargain, the chap I’m getting it off is a good friend and done a lot to it so it’s narrowing it down to what it is and be good to get another Landy on the road will let you know once it’s sorted what was wrong

Ok will try that I’m getting tomorrow so will try that thanks for that,I was think what to do to see if it is crankshaft sensor cheers mate
