2006 TDV6 Manual S
153000miles recent cambelts, rear diff, rear air bags...more I can't remember. Good history anyway. 4 matching tyres with decent tread.

She needs a new hub n/s/f so I'll do both fronts, and the tailgate won't open. There's other minor bits but they're my priority.

Really impressed with how these drive, they're a bit stupid quick for the size :eek::D about 3-4mpg better than a standardish td5 defender so far and really, really comfortable.

Plan for next 2 week's is

Sort tailgate and hubs
Wash her. Thoroughly. She's filthy
Polish the headlights
Do the tip run
Etc etc :p

I'll post more pics when she's clean and will do a little walk through in discovery forum on how to strip tailgate and get to upper actuator and latch and what have ya. I've done it today but will wait til I've fitted new parts so it's complete with solution :)

It was mint, no drama at all. The missus was really happy, she never felt good in the defender lol. I'm really pleased with it, going up a decent hill single carriageway national speed limit, 5th gear kept it at 50 all the way up at 1500rpm. Effortless :D

I really hope it doesn't have a massive issue waiting to surprise me cuz I do really like it. If it wasn't economical for me to repair I'd definitely have another one.

Time for a beer, cheers!

Always good to hear it towed well and SWMBO is also happy, nice drive then with the tunes on , lol

I’ve done a lot of preventive maintenance on mine and think with these u have to ensure items are resolved and not allowed to get into a bigger problem

I only do 2 - 3,000 miles per year yet still change all the oils filters regardless every year

Cheers mate, I need a better pump tbf, there's a whale one that's meant to be much better for £50 :eek: sometimes it takes a bit of jiggling for this one to work but its been ok this time ;)

Just read through the thread and on the subject of rounded bolt removals, Irwins are great when the bolt has actually rounded and there is no hope of re-using it; but in order to avoid getting to that point I bought a set of Laser 1/2" drive Positiv-lock sockets about six months ago. They grip the flats and so will never round a bolt, although not sure if they will work on one that has already rounded. They feel a bit weird to use as they don't feel secure until you apply some torque, but if I have any doubts about a nut or bolt head I now go straight to these.

When I swapped the rear diff on my D2 a while ago I used them almost exclusively (Caliper bolts are 12 pointed) and the only problem I had were a couple of the 8mm bolts holding on the disk heat shields where the heads just twisted off. I couldn't get the hub nuts off though and resorted to removing the half shafts with the hub still attached. The hubs nuts were not rounding - just not moving. I gave up when it was clear that my 1/2" breaker bar (+ scaffold) was going to break first. I've now bought a 3/4" breaker and some 6 sided 3/4" drive sockets.

It’s only taken 3 x years, lol , but that’s working here and there when I’ve been able to , must admit am well chuffed, after I had rebuilt the suspension and replaced the front struts it was like night and day in how it drove

My mum and dad are nearly 90 and find it very easy to get in and out because of being able to drop the suspension , tons of room for candy as well who stretches out in the back seat

Between all of us that own D3/D4 I’m pretty sure we can assist with ur D3, along with saving a fortune

plus having a gap iid is a godsend

Dipped a cable tie into the front diff filler to check state of oil r.e what I mentioned in other thread

Dropped a small puddle onto the bench, this looks ok to me? Smells nice and fresh, although when I took filler plug out, it let some oil out straight away. Car is cold, not been driven today.

I understand these diffs are filled with a specific amount, not until it starts to appear at filler hole?

Hi mate

Does look ok but personally would still change it just so u know 100% it’s the correct oil and correct amount

Might have been overfilled or under pressure when u removed the filler plug from a blocked diff breather

Did keep an ear out for a hiss when I took the plug out, no pressure afaik mate.

It's going to roean in Telford on Saturday for proper diagnosis and ill take ut from there :) obviously depending on what they say oil will be changed one way or another :confused:
