I have stripped down a 2.25 5 bearing engine in the hope the bores were OK, I have measured the ring gaps and they are way out so it looks like a rebore is needed, the crank pulley has also got a score on where the oil seal runs, not sure whether I should rebuild the 5 bearing engine or the 3 bearing engine that's currently in it, are the 5mb much better? Also does anyone know the best place to get the rebore done around teeside?

I've took the pistons out and push the rings in the bore and measured the gap, the are out of tolerance, I haven't measured the bores as I don't have the tool.

an old 2.25 is going to have worn bores unless its been rebuilt in recent years, not that that will stop it been used for many years quite often, it depends what your after

I'm rebuilding the whole vehicle so thinking I might as well go the whole hog a rebuild the engine
in that case buy the appropiate pistons ie plus 20 unless it already is and get it bored to suit them, pistons vary in size so you buy 4 as a set and you get block bored and honed to leave correct clearance, you dont get it bored over size then buy pistons

If you're in the Manchester area phone LEC , they'll sort you out cheapest and best and really know their stuff and free postage next day if required

Phone LEC for advice and compare prices, you wont be disappointed and will save money:)

Just had the verdict from the engine reconditioner, He has advised it needs bored out to 030 but i need to supply the pistons because they are to expensive for them to get, The only ones i can seem to get are Britpart ones.

id go for +40 ,id be surprised if +30 was still available

Surprisingly craddocks have them but can't advise what make the pistons are, and island 4x4 have the britpart ones in, the engine builder advised to get the 030 then the block is not on its limit
