I have a 300tdi engine that is eventually going in to my 110 rebuild. Now I would love to get it sent off and fully reconditioned but cant afford to but I do want to clean it up as best as I can. Now my problem is I don't have electric or water at my garage/shed where I do all my work, the engine is very dirty oily. At a push I may be able to borrow a diesel pressure washer but then I'll have to get some water up there somehow,
I'm in no hurry so could spend a couple of hours every night for a week or two trying to get it the cleanest I can.
My Question is what's the best way to clean it ? and whats the best / strongest cleaners to use,? with my problems above. ??

Gunk ultra is the best stuff I've ever used, work it in with stiff nylon scrubbing brush and rinse with water.

If you do not have a ready supply then you can get a few 2ltr cheap own brand bottled water from ***** (insert supermarket of your choice) and use it to rinse it off with, use a fresh scrubbing brush and some fairy washing up liquid, don't bother with cheap stuff, and it'll be a case of rinse and repeat.
 
As dieseldog said, gunk is the mutts. I use it all the time to de-grease bits and pieces, brush it on, scrub it in really well, rise it off and repeat until clean. For really stubborn stuff I give it a good blast with brake and clutch cleaner first to break it up and allow the de-greaser to soak in.
 
Might try a bottle tomorrow then if it works will order 5 litres off ebay

It’s good stuff. We used to degrease pumps with it, then clean them with a diesel steam cleaner. There wasn’t much that combo wouldn’t strip.
 
+1 for gunk, use one of them big pressure sprayer things to rinse. Pump action jobby with a lance? Fill it at home and a few containers spare.

Brake cleaners is the bollocks as well

Think I might need a Pressure Washer after all and gallons of Gunk. I only tried the ordinary in the tin as that's all they had but will try the Ultra too. Has anyone used TFR as I can get some of that off a Mate.

Might have a go at getting engine ready to clean this weekend.
Need to get the gearbox off first, as it will be easier to get engine outside for the jet wash.
I know it will be much easier with it been out of the car but Never done this before, do I just unbolt the bolts around the box, and they will separate ??

Back to cleaning engine, just about got everything ready all I need now is water, gonna borrow a petrol jet wash.
Ill cover all the electrical bits up, will it be OK to jet wash inside bell housing on gear box, also should I remove old clutch and jet wash inside there too ??
Its getting new clutch back in.
