Good morning all,
My Series 3 Petrol (2.286 3 main bearing) has a Weber carb on it, had it when I got it, I've noticed it ices up a bit, is there anything I can do about it. Would I be better off changing it to the original carb, I'd have to get hold of one if they are still available, or would I be better off upgrading the Weber or putting an SU on it, anyone have any experience of any if the options.

Can you get a pipe from your air cleaner to over the exhaust?
Just that warm air will help
stop the freeze.

I know there is a conversion for a S1 for summer/winter running.

Run with a muff on the front will also stop the cold air into the air filter.

Thanks for the advice, I think I might look at 're routing the pipe.

If you have oil bath air-cleaner make sure its all nice and clean I have seen em with lots of water trapped within especially if used on short trips this can cause probs when it hits the cold carb. Radiator muff a good option as Hicap said as is soft bonnet edge seal, Kenlowe fan instead of belt driven one. Is the correct thermostat fitted. If the carb is running rich engine can run cool. I think S3 had a heat shield fitted originally which although designed to keep heat from bulkhead and hence cabin can also hold some heat around the carb area. I think the webber is a much better carb if you can stop it freezing

I think the Webber carb performs and sounds great, got a few on some of my landys, but when the zenith started ****ing fuel from spindle on my lightweight i bought a cheapo Chinese copy as a temp measure! People will tell you to avoid them, and don’t buy bearmarch it’s all the same carb at different prices, but once mine bedded in its been superb! Not a bad £40 spent!
