Hi all,
You might of seen me post this in engines but I don't think it gets much exposure. I picked up my "new" 1997 90 yesterday. Initially thought it was something of a bargain. 100k miles new chassis in 2003 that's extremely solid and unwelded (unfortunately not galvanised as it was an insurance job so hot a genuine chassis) has been as up for 4 years on a farm. Got it going and runs and drives very well bags of power and smooth not missing or anything but it smokes a LOT (probably blue oil smoke I think) not driven it enough to see how it is properly hot but it's unacceptable as is. Theres no back pressure in the head, ie I take the oil fill cap off and there's no pressure though the hole.
What can be causing these issues? It passed its MOT in 2015 and did 4k since so I can't imagine rings have gone as surely It would have been bad 4k miles ago?
Thanks

What oil is in the engine dude?
Absolutely no idea to be honest. It was a little low when I got it but only put 0.8l in to get it up the the full mark. Probably a bit of that will have been lost leaking. I've got all the service bits on order and would be over the moon if it sorts of but I'm not to optimistic.

Well there you go then, buy some total quartz 7000 10w40 and a new oil fuel and air filter, and see how it is then?

New oil and filters then a decent thrashing will sort it
Be very very careful topping the oil up as the tdis can take hours to settle to their correct level, so you may have overfilled it without realising, best left overnight then dip it.

Sorry Froghopper just noticed you said the exact same thing!

No problemo, makes a change for me to get something right these days. Or at least that what the doris says.

I read this great line the other day about women and it made me smile as its so true.

Men want sex and women want security.

Take off the intercooler to inlet manifold pipe, and have a look about.

Personally I'd be having a good look in the intercooler before trying an Italian tune. It may not be the turbo seals, but an Italian tune with a leaking turbo is a pretty good pathway to tears.
