Hi!
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction..
Not long had my Freelander 1 (first Land Rover) and I’ve just noticed my brake lights come on with my rear lights and stay on.
Any ideas?

Either a short in the loom or a broken stop lamp switch but to check for the switch see if the brake lights come on with just ignition on or only when sidelights on. If on with ign check brake switch otherwise you got a short circuit somewhere in loom. Maybe look where it enters rear door. Could be number plate feed shorting to high level brake light. Also get some to look what happens at rear as you switch lights on and off. The Freelander has brake lights in bumper with the sidelights dual filament bulb and also high level on door.

I've come across faulty bulbs before now, where there's an internal connection between the side light filament and brake light filament. This would put the brake lights on with the side lights, and also put the side lights on with the brake lights. So that's worth checking.

Also if you're new to Freelander ownership, then look through this forum in what to check if serious transmission troubles are to be avoided. The Freelander is very different to your average car, and needs special attention to tyre maintenance, if transmission failure is to be avoided. I'll link the thread, when I find it.
