Went to get a new key and fob last Friday, got the fob no probs but the dash light flashes quite a few times when i unlock the car but still works.
Mean while they said they could not do the key because a limited amount of F1s in 2001 had a different style of chip in the key and are only available from L.R.
Can anyone shed any light on this.
Many thanks
Dave

Is there a beeb beeb along with the flashing alarm LED? If so, that's the fob battery low on power.

2001 onwards vehicles have a transponder in the key (tear drop shape key). Post 2001 used a thin hinged key, where the transponder was in the remote instead.

If you have the latest transponder key, then the transponder can be used from the old key.

I think that the transponder in the key as Nodge described (post 2001) is likely very similar to, if not the same, as used on the Rover 75 of the same era.

If your key doesn't have a transponder, it won't be the end of the world: the key fob inactivates the immobilizer and you can start the car. If the car immobilizes itself, then simply press the "unlock" button again :)

Many thanks will check this week if its battery in new fob (easy one that)
My key what i got with the car is a tear-drop shaped one, so it should have the transponder
in it.
Was gonna go to Timpsons for one but our local branch closed two weeks ago, will have to go to Wigan
theres one there and see what they say.
Thanks again.
