When I bought my new pride and joy, one of the little foibles was the horns didn't work for some reason.
As the steering wheel was 'past it's best', I decided I'd just bite the bullet and pay Ebay a visit.
A few days later, and wallet considerably lighter, I am the proud owner of a steering wheel, with two horn buttons, cruise control, and the cruise dash button to match. Hooray !!

NOT SO FAST.......

Why is there a piece of paper behind that left button?
Why isn't the button springing back?
Well obviously that's because the SPRING that holds the button forwards, and the two contacts apart is missing. Now, both springs, and top half of contact switches were missing off my 'old' wheel as well, so I can't reuse those...

which leads me to my question....

Does anyone know where I can buy the right size spring from please, without spending £78 on a new pair of horn buttons?

I think I paid about £15 to buy a pair of intact button assys - with springs & wiring - second hand off ebay.
On ours, one of the button retainjng tabs had broken off & any light touch would cause the button front to eject itself :).

I'll have a look during the day whether I kept the old bits (can't remember if they were thrown away as useless)

I has happened with mine as well. So until I got the new buttons I have removed the spring and also put paper behind the contacts in order to avoid the horn going on. Do you miss only the springs or the upper contact (hanging on a small wire as I remember) as well? Can you operate the horn by touching the upper small metal piece to the bottom one?
If not you will need full horn asm.

I've checked my spares and only have the good assy remaining that I kept as a future spare.
I've taken it apart carefully & measured the spring
It's 13mm outside diameter, 11mm inside diameter & 18mm long unloaded.
Any larger diameter and it won't fit in the housing & any smaller on internal diameter and it doesn't locate on the upper, moving contact.
It isn't easy to remove the moving part on a good assy with all the retaining tabs. I had to use some electronic screwdrivers to depress the tabs.
If the spring & upper contacts are missing from your's, it's highly likely 1 or more of the retaining tabs is broken & the spring & button will eject themselves again in future meaning you might be better spending the money on a good assembly.

Thanks for checking. On my original wheel they're indeed all missing and tabs broken. On the replacement, they're all intact except one of the springs is missing. I've ordered a couple of springs based on the dimension of my one remaining, which is very similar to yours - so will see what happens when they turn up in hopefully a few days.
