Now that the unit is back in position it will be nigh on impossible to measure the diameter of the hole other than by dropping the prop shaft again . I am 100% sure that the bung was not there before I removed the unit. I could however do a do or die fix by putting a Duct tape patch over it. I gave the cover & case a good clean before reassembling and the tape should stay in place.

I can't see the hole.....need to go to Specsavers !!!!
Could be to dissipate any heat from the motor and prevent condensation because there is a PCB inside ??
I don't think the hole in the plastic cover is threaded. Maybe Duct tape with a small hole bodged through it with a screwdriver ???
The actuator is located about the same height from the ground as the spare wheel above the rear diff in the body arch

It’s just a rubber grommet, no hole in it.I can't see the hole.....need to go to Specsavers !!!!

Glad it helped , indeed from others is indeed just a blanking plug , i also enquired on the D3 forum and they also said the same , At least we now know what it is
At the end of the day glad u got it all sorted out and saving a fair few bob along the way
Suppose in future if someone else removes theres and the grommet is missing then maybe something like a bulkhead fitting will be of use ??
