You need a new ECU,they are designed to be single use.

Just fitted one of these and will be doing another one in a couple of days, i think there are two part numbers, both work and one of them is superceeded. 140 quid + VAT at a land rover dearlership in Uk.

Not ordered to chassis number but only one shot for programming, and not swappable.

Just SRS ECU, under dashboard/heater box, you can get at it by cutting carpet, instead of taking dash out.

Is it not still in warranty ? If the srs lamp is lit there are several reasons for it to be on,with the ignition switched off for 10 mins try unplugging and reconnecting the srs ecu and all other connectors you can find connected to that system.(they are all shrouded in yellow) Esp check the seat belt pretensioner connectors under the seat. After a couple of ignition cycles you may find the lamp will stay off.If it stays on then it needs Testbook to interrogate the ecu for faults.

Not sure how similar the set up is on the td4 to the td5 but i had the same problem on my td5 and it turned out to be the seat belt pre tens wiring under the front seat (in my case the drivers seat). Tend to get interupted with seat movement. Best to find the yellow connectors and try unplugging and connecting two or three times and if all well should reset itself with out the expensive diagnostic check/reset down your local rip off merchant dealer.Going by the age of your vehicle dont think this will be a big fix.

Adam do you have the old airbag ECU?

Might come in handy if future mods on the airbag system are developed.

eg blanking off passenger side to suit babyseat

I had nearly the same problem, I have a problem with the sunroof, that when it rains my car gets lot lots of water on the carpet, so I removed the front seats and the carpet to let it dry on the sun. but when i put the carpet and the cables that i disconnected back on, the srs light come on... I double check the cables and they are fine...its the first time i get this light on. any suggestions...thanks

hi i have the same problem with my srs light on the dash i have taken it to a specialist and they have replaced the srs ecu, it now talks to the diagnostic machine but there is still a problem. the garage said there is a open circuit on the driver airbag ecu, has anyone had this problem.

I've been driving with the SRS light on for about 4 years. It would come on with ignition, go off for about 10 seconds after starting, then come on again and stay on. I had pulled and checked every connection and eventually gave up.
Just replaced my IRD and now it works normally:cool: Figure that one out!

Actually, I suspect it's after taking the battery out for charging when I was waiting for the parts. Must have reset itself or something when I put the battery back :) .

Maybe worth a try before you splash out on a new ECU ;)

Happened to my KV6. Wrapped the wire on to seat body using sticky tape solved the prob.

"hi what is the IRD"

Absolutely nothing to do with SRS. I just mentioned that after 4 years of living with the light when I changed the IRD the SRS light seemed to function normally. Only lasted 3 or 4 days comming on again now. Oh well.

I still recommend disconnecting the battery for an hour or so. I guess this clears the memory in the ECU. Whilst the battery is disconnected go round and pull each connection and check its clean then reconnect securely.

The IRD is the Intermediate Reduction Drive - and that's another story!

Hi,
I have the same issue with the SRS light. Landrover Servicing tried investigating and now the horn does not work. Claimed I need a spiral switch to resolve at a cost of $400.00 for part and $300 for Labor. Freelander is still there... Any idea? Lainie, Paramus,NewJersey, USA

get it put on a diagnostic computer to find the fault b 4 spending £140 on an ecu, mine was a fault in the rotary coupler £15 from ebay sorted it out and £10 to the guy to plug in the laptop

both those faults indicate a faulty "clockspring" connector in the steering wheel. prices quoted are an outrage, even in USD. check ebay for part, and something we brits call a "Haynes Manual". shows you exactly how to do the work. even if you don't fancy it, it will give you an idea of whats involved.

Had a similar problem with my 2000 L series. Heater matrix was leaking and coolant got on the SRS controller. A bit of reseating of the connector and all is well again. As the IRD is direcly below this location, 'Chips' solve his problem in a similar manor. It was all that work with the hammer that did it.

The Mrs's SRS light came on when I had to use jump leads to start it after she left the interior light on..................

Do you think disconnecting the battery for an hour or so will do the trick. All connectors under seats etc are fine.

Thanks in advance.
