Hi Everyone

Thanks in advance for any help, i came up with an idea to use the power coming in to my rear view mirror to run a dash-cam as the mirror didn't dim any more anyway, i didn't see the harm in it.

so i was using my multi-meter to work out what's what i worked out it has a live, reverse and an earth, when checking the earth i heard a beep and so i stopped and plugged the mirror back in. however, it looks like by doing this i have made the BECM think there is an earth fault having no errors before on the dash now having fuse 6 (the mirror) has failed gearbox fault and abs fault.

I checked fuse 6 its fine but replaced anyway and i can't get this to go away any help is greatly appreciated, if i do a hard restart e.g remove battery connection will this resolve the issue? or have i screwed it?

Cheers

Quite difficult to use a multimeter to find a live as leakage currents will often fool you into thinking a wire is live when actually it's a control line.
Use RAVE to identify wires.
Why would you think you can drive a power hungry camera from a very low power source?

Make sure the car is unlocked and starts. With the driver's door open disconnect the battery earth for 10 minutes and then reconnect and see what happens. You might get lucky!

Thanks for the replies,

Datatek, Its not too high a demand it uses a usb phone type charger so 5v and a few people have done it in other vehicles without issue.

Wammers, its a 1996

Grrrrrr, thanks for that i will give it a try on thurs and post back......... but i hope i am lucky and it unfrigs itself.

Cheers

The mirror will use milliamps, the camera will use considerably more than the circuit is designed to take. Without looking at RAVE, I'm not even sure there is a permanent live at the mirror.
Other vehicles do not have the P38 BECM.

Three wires to mirror Pin 1 White/Purple 10 amp power from fuse 6. Pin 2 Black Ground. Pin 3 Brown/Blue to pin 20 on plug C326 BECM. You may have screwed the electronics in the mirror head.
