I'm in the middle of a big (for me) building project, all on my own, little or no help, and its outside (new garage) and I've got to keep plugging away while it's not raining.
I suspect it would rot away mounted under the wing, Chinese steel and all that. Maybe under the driver's seat, in the seat box if I can't fit it under the bonnet.
 
You might be right about Chinese "steel" - it certainly isn't painted to any standard of note, and as you may have seen in the photo's, the, er, "paint" (really?! I'm not convinced...) has just come orf at every opportunity:rolleyes:

I like the idea of it under the seat - its certainly out of the weather and any heat under there, and it will sound cool too - each time you press the clutch there will be a reassuring hiss :)

Good luck with the garage - whilst you may be doing it on your own, at least its getting done. Our so called insurance company are now 5 years into a ten WEEK repair to our home, and IMHO they don't give a damn, and I can see us having to do the work - simply because it appears its the only way it'll get done !!!:rolleyes:

Bundy pipe length is irrelevant , but for ease of bleeding etc its best to avoid "U" bends continual rise type
layout is the ideal . I fitted several remote servos to L/crsrs in OZ , used the mini/MG as others( redboost ) wasnt available at that time . Never found the need to fit a separate vac reservoir , or assistance drop off even when maneuvering.

200 miles of use later, and the supplied bundy is leaking, due to a malformed end:rolleyes: Ho Hum. If I was doing this again, I would use banjo's - it would make the install much neater, :) and enable the use of 1/4 pipe throughout, which would be better. The banjo's are available on the bay for about £15 each.... ( probably wouldn't leak either:rolleyes:)

Note that the clamp which holds the two halves of the servo can together protrudes from the can by 35mm, and that I had to move it to fit the servo in the Disco - its shown in the pictures in my OP.:)

I might well do, not much to see at the moment, mainly site leveling and getting the soil shifted off site, 3 grab lorry loads gone so far, one more should do it.
16 cubic mtrs per load.

Well that's worth a few pictures in its own right. Are you digging in to a hillside to make a flat surface?

Aye. that's what I had to do - cos it was stuffed - and then I had the pleasure of bleeding it all again!!

(should have taken a picture and put it up as an example of how not to form a flare :rolleyes::mad::confused:o_O:rolleyes::()

Note to self:- use banjo's and 1/4 pipe next time !!
 
Why do you need another vacuum source , is it a non vac pump engine ?

I'm sure the 300Tdi has a vacuum pump sticking out the side of the block or how would the system work?

I was thinking of using the space under the dash one passenger side and the electric pump would save untidy vacuum pipe routing and only the need for a pair of plate fittings to enter and exit the cab.
 
Sticking the remote servo in cab would require fluid pipe entering and exiting cab , I used to fit in wing space under bonnet , all you need is a T in the vac line for brake servo and pipe to new servo . The engine pump will cope with both . HTSH

Yes, I don't doubt that that pump would work. .......... but ..... you don't need it ( see below )

Ah, well, yep, no exhauster would be a bit of an issue....o_O

It will, and does so without issue .... we (mainly SWMBO with her own health issues ) have driven this D1 for 20K miles now with this servo in place ( FYI, there is no way in hell either of us could drive it without .... ), and had zero issues .....

In very heavy traffic, and I do mean VERY VERY heavy, you are sometimes aware of a slight increase in clutch pedal effort for the shortest of times while the exhauster catches up .... have not noticed any change in brake pedal effort .. The solution is a small vacuum tank, which I have, ready to go, but it simply hasn't been necessary yet .....

Biggest problem I see with putting a servo inside the "cab" as it were, would be if a fluid leak occurs ... it'll make a mess in short order, plus the issue of bleeding such a long circuit..... though the satisfying "hiss" might be quite interesting is a weird sort of way ;)

according to the servo instructions, you also need a one way valve to stop it draining the other servo :)
