Engine dropping into limp mode

Defender 90 puma 2.4 2007. Were having recurring problem of engine dropping into limp mode. Engine light on from time to time but garage here in France says nothing is showing from the the ecb. He’s suggesting a new egr valve. Can anyone help please. I fear I might be on the slippery slope of replacing the engine bit by bit!
 
On the output side of the turbo there is a 90 degree bend hose, look in that area, and the hose to the intercooler. They are prone to wearing through as it is too close to the knuckle joint on the steering shaft. The split if present can hold air pressure up to a point but then can blow out as the engine speed increases, this puts the engine into limp mode before resealing itself allowing the engine to start again normally. Land rover do a one piece rubber/steel hose as a replacement between the turbo and the intercooler.
