So turned on the ignition this morning only to hear the sound of running water, odd I thought so ignition off, it stopped, on again, its back. fan was on half speed, turn it off, it stopped. Not heard this before, so bonnet up, definitely coming from the heater air inlet on the wing, started the engine, the running water sound stopped.
Whats going on in the heater matrix to make a running water noise? Thought the fan blades were running through water, well that's how it sounded anyway.

Merry Christmas.

If it is water, have you checked that the air intake drain hole is clear?

Wot ^ said. There should be a small drain in the intake duct which is easily blocked with crap.

Sorted thanks, the drain was well and truly blocked, the open end was tight on top of the inner wheel arch so had no chance of emptying properly, took it out and cut the rubber to allow more flow.
