I would say the parts as in a kit form will never trickle down to mere mortals.

I expect a few bespoke vehicle suppliers will make it an option in the future, but with a hefty price tag.

Cheers

I thought about putting the old supercharged v8 engine I have spare in mine, until I realised just how ridiculous it is, 400 hp in a defender is mental.

Tis a bit daft spending all that money on a tratter with unusable performance. Insurance would be high anorl.

shame, you may well be right ;(

was not thinking you necessarily need the 400bhp or a supercharged (expensive) one. The engine has been around since 1999 in 250+ bhp

Have to admit, as a toy, it is something I would be tempted to do if I had the space and time.

Either a 6Bt or a V8 supercharged, but would require all the drive train to be upgraded to handle it.

Would be a great weekend toy though.

Cheers

yup, and a fun (the ultimate ) sleeper / q car

Have a shufti here, will give you some inspiration, maybe in seppo land but they do have a good idea, I really like their RRC with the 6.2L

yup, that’s nice. But you know that site are in silly territory price wise!

I do like the way the US V8 engine rumble but just feel like some say here; 400hp and 6L engines... its a bit too much for a defender in 400 bhp guise. There should also be quite a few (cheaper ?) older Jag ones around in the 200 to 300bhp range, quite a bit more than you can get easily from the old rover v8 and an would also probably have an autobox with more gears(?) there was even a 3.5l which may well also be a fair bit lighter (which will ultimately make the power easier to handle brake, suspension and cornering wise). If you are lucky there may even be a lighter(?), more powerful v8 with a better gearbox of same vintage as your landy?

aparrently the works jag v8 engine points downwards at the back, did the discos, RRs with these engines do that?

lastly I am assuming the jag v8 uses the european plane cam so should be a more euro sound and freer revving... an probably unreliable so a bit more authentic ;)

I'm not sure about the zf boxes on the NA/later 'R' ones, but the Merc boxes on the older xjrs need a special (expensive) controller to get them to work.

Currently 'refurbing' the one on the right, lovely smooth engines :D

nice, yep they must be using the european style cam then if smooth, I know they sound nice as there were a lot of them and XKs about for a while!

Ufff I did not realise expensive electronic controllers went back that far
