Other Range Rover 2.5DT 1997

Hi I am after some advice about my 1997 range rover 2.5dt the clutch was done 18 months ago so the last owner told me I brought it this morning got it home and charged the battery and after about 20 minutes or so I had no clutch I could get all gears with out using the clutch so I was wondering if it could be the clutch or something else any advice would be great if you or anyone can help I would appreciate it very much thank you

First have checked the fluid ? If its ok then get yourself under the car and look for movement of clutch arm while somebody works the pedal it could be clutch arm roll pins gone plenty of info on here about them.

Hi I have checked the fluid and it's ok. I have been under it and the wife has been pressing the pedal and there is now movement on the slave

So does this mean you now have a clutch ? if still no go then roll pins ,they locate the clutch arm to the cross shaft.

Yes still no clutch so would it be the slave or do I have to take the gear box out

If slave is moving the arm then Roll pins had mine go twice, when its fixed make sure it is double pined or as on my last time triple pined.

if the lever moves youd think pins if lever doesnt when pedals pressed, youd think hydraulics

The slave dose not move so I am thinking it's that slave

Cool thank you I'll go get a slave cylinder tomorrow morning and I'll have to try that and take it from there thank you again

But if I have to change the pins I'll dubbed them up thanks

Just had a thought its been a few years since did clutch on my p38 @James hyett but isnt the slave cylinder bolted directly to the bell housing if it is you would need to remove slave to check for clutch arm moving @jamesmartin or @brianp38dse might recall ( funny what comes into my head when having a shower ).

Thanks for confirming @jamesmartin, other guys think of scantily glad young ladies when having a shower (maybe, other options are avabile) I think of range rovers !

It is the same set up as this so you can clearly see what is going on

on mine when the roll pins went the arm could be moved back and forth by hand and just rotate.

Is this a case of being stationary & able to select any gear with the engine running without using the clutch?
And the car doesn't move?

When bleeding the slave cylinder then an Ezibleed kit makes it very easy. Flush lots of fluid through.

As Brian says, when the pins go the arm can moved about with little effort.

Just won't to say thank you to you all for your help yesterday and to let you know that I have the old girl working and she drives spot on so now I just got to put it in for its MOT tomorrow morning so fingers crossed it pass once again thank you

All sort now thank you it was the slave but at the same time I told the master apart and cleaned it and I am glad I did as there was so much gunck in side thank you

Good evening mate well as for the MOT not good failed on some bits back tyres, track rod ends , and radius arm bushes, and a half shaft seal so I have done it all apart from the track rod end and radius brushes but I am struggling to find the parts cheap
