Defender door

Both mine refuse to close fully when it gets below 2 deg. they seem to rebound. first latch catches but have to warm up the locks/vehicle to get them to close will be interested in a solution for this
 
My drivers door is always hard to close properly, i have to slam it shut............think one of these days I'm going to lose the window! :eek:

try loosening the screws on the receiver -mark around the original position first with a pencil - and tap it 2mm towards the outside of the vehicle, then tighten the screws up again and try the door.
Worked perfect on mine - quick and easy to play moving it inwards and / or outwards until it feels right. Just don't forget to tighten the screws before you slam the door shut.!
You could even show off and use a permanent marker for Summer and Winter positions :D

Yeah, tried that, it did make the door easier to close, but then the door wasn't flush with the frame so put it back. Trouble is, I have new door seals so hopping that eventually they will wear a bit and become easier to close!

Flush with the frame? Sorry....I thought we were talking about a Defender.
You must have one of those Posh models ;)
 
Poor fitting doors help lighten the load I find, following a good slam the thing is usually half a kilo lighter. Once the rust stops falling out of the doors it suggests two outcomes, the rust has gone and left solid metal, or the doors have simply rusted away :D
 
I think it is the pivot for the catch. You need to spray upwards into the latch in the door. Mine just bounced open every time I slammed it when it was cold but now it shuts just fine
 
I've done loads of things to my Landy over the years - some very complex, some expensive, some cheap, some effective, some less so, but ………… I have NEVER manged to get the doors to close properly when it's cold. My whole family have had to evolve to develop 'the technique' ……. it's a hard pull on the door with a sustained pull to prevent 'bounce', rather than a slam. It's a right of passage for anyone spending any time with us.

The truth is I've changed all the seals for new, changed the latches, oiled and cleaned everything, tried repositioning everything, yet still it lapses in cold weather. I suspect I did not get the best seals. There must be a market for someone to produce a soft set of silicon door seals to get over this?
