Sounds like you've been through the mill with this, at least you shouldn't have to do a chassis swap ( As I have) sounds like it's just on going maintenance on a 20 odd year old car, everything is replaceable or repairable, you'll get to know the car properly as well.
I learnt a lot about mine, I now have more trust In my tratter than I do in our disco 2, mostly down to the simplicity of it.
Stick with it, cos there will be ONE day when everything's working and it'll be great.

Your right...drumming fingers...changed fluid in jacks...taken dmm to mate's to check battery using his dmm...what's next...polished socket set...what's wrong...nothing...the money drain on the drive is behaving....but has made sure it's got you infactuated with it to the point that you can't believe it's actually doing what you bought it for...driving it...
It's more the old chestnut of expectation versus reality. The advert and the pre-sale long distance telephone conversations I had with the seller where one massive 'big up' on his part. It made my expectations 'big' as it would do most, I was excited to have found this amazing car, even though it was top whack for what it is. I can see that he probably did the 'big up' to get a big price for himself, whilst also getting rid of a big problem (in his eyes, not mine). There's no major problems, so what were big problems to him, aren't big problems to me. However, there's been a few burst bubbles to deal which deflate, disappoint and bring out the whinger in me, but I'm feeling better about it all now. You're spot on about getting to know the car well. New discoveries and new information stored everyday. I wonder if some of the chaps on here (James in particular) actually invented tratters. It'd have cost me a bomb if I'd have had to use those sites who pair you straight away with an expert for a fiver. I've asked loads of questions on here.

Not at all. The listing was on Ebay. It was 9895 on a Buy it Now. Like everyone does, I sent an offer. Mine was the highest at 9k. He agreed, but since I couldn't travel up to Scotland until the weekend (and he didn't want to end the listing in case I changed my mind before the weekend) he told me to put the BIN price through, but he'd accept 9k cash and amend the final sale price with Ebay. However, when I got there, he told me other people had been in touch after the listing disappeared (I'd spoken to him before I set off and he didn't say that), and he now didn't want to stick to the verbal agreement (when I was in the middle of the mountains 10 miles from the nearest wickerman village). The pictures on his listing weren't an accurate description (5 years old) and all the other stuff I've said in the previous thread. Basically, I was 900 quid down from the deal I was supposed to be doing (he didn't even offer the fiver change from the BIN price), then I drove it home in the ****ing rain, wipers shagged, fuel guage bust, no spanner if my tyre popped, miles more oxidisation bubbling on the rear door than he said (a wee bubble is actually 50 bubbles) .... . Anyway, I've got safe brakes now :0) Best of all, if I had have walked away (swhich is hard when you've travelled all that way), I wouldn't know everyone on here now, would I?

Yes ...wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't.....going to do a project thread on it as it will be used for trips around the Algarve and Europe.... Morocco ferry is only 400k from here..it's also got a knokken winch and iv'e already bought metal lockers to slide out from lower drop down sides...just need the reg plates from IMT Portugal...
Once sorted...will talk to insurance company to see if I can rent it out for tourist use...it is going to be fully loaded...satnav...f/f...tablet...WiFi...weber bbq...etc...

I've got to say, if I paid 9k for a 92, I would want and expect a mint example for that money or I would walk away, no matter how far I'd travelled. I've been rebuilding my 95 for best part of 3 years. weve had a few pinched from round here recently ,farmers trucks what you think were 5-6k but to get any thing similar seems to cost over 10k

yours will be mint but most are rotten or full of problems or problems to be ie if youve just spent 1k on a td5 having new flywheel clutch etc done ,the next one you buy is likely needing that soon
