Reluctant to make another headlining thread, but ...

... the answer I'm looking for isn't in any I've read.

I seen to have a moulded carcass under my sagged fabric, so it's not just a tin roof above the fabric. Before I start writhing away at ripping it all off and paying what I think is too much dosh for a new moulded one, has anyone successfully stuck new fabric to said possible carcass and just put the old one back on?

Also, is this the norm for a ceiling, or is it normally just a tin roof above pulled fabric? Cheers

The molding is normal, that is what the standard headling is made from. Several others on here have detailed threads on how they have recovered them with new fabric. For mine as the sagging was not complete I carefully removed the rear edge so the sagging pocket was open applied "impact" contact adhesive and then restuck the old fabric to the molding.

Cheers for that. There's a lot of threads. You wouldn't know the link, or remember the title of the OP? I've exhausted the combinations of possible hits in LZ search bar, but the threads you mention sound perfect. If not, I'll just have to do a trawl when I've more time. Cheers

one of the easiest jobs ive done.

I have a fetching grey 4 way stretch carpet over mine now.

Old stuff was barely attached.
Remember to use Hi temp spray adhesive.

Thanks for that. I've seen the carpet on Ebay for when I'm ready to do the floor. Good idea for the roof though. I'm guessing (now I know that I can reline the moulding underneath) that the original fabric's too far sagged and stretched to be any good. I'll check out the adhesive now. Got it. Have done it myself in the past but I ended up in a right mess, take the good advice, spray glue is best not the paint on type evostick.

I reckon carpet will look good? Well it'll be carpet on the floor if it'll go over wrights off-road stuff, otherwise I'll put up with the grey poly. I don't do the mud courses or green laning. I panic if I get lost in a new town, so sliding backwards down a hill or swimming with the ducks in a pond isn't really my thing. Mind you, the dogs do a lot of shaking. I'll have to remember that when I come to doing it in the new year.

Easy wee job matey couple of pics when I done mine a short time ago

I did a headlining for a RRC a long time ago, but I should think the principal is the same.
The backing board or whatever its' called was a bit fragile so I gave it a couple of coats of watered down PVA to stabilise it first. Worked for me anyway.

Think it's officialy and affectionately known as a "carcass", perhaps it smells bad!
You can strip all the old backing foam off and paint them, (the carcass), no more sagging lining ever again, did my D1 headlining about 6years ago, still looks good.

Mackers, the last one I did used the stretchy carpet material normally used in VWs. Can't find the link but it was a VW place in Leeds. I ended up covering all of the plastic inside. Really easy to do but remember to use high temp blue and glue both carpet and roof.

Two or three people make the job easier.
