I think that's the point, its the paperwork that is the challenge not the engineering. In the past is was a bit accademic but now we have tax and MOT exemption it is £200 / year hit if it goes the wrong way.

Probably the best option which would avoid any doubt is to accept that it's a 'pile of bits', build it up and go through the IVA and registration process for a homebuilt vehicle. It's all legal then and gives you more freedom to build it up as you want. As long as you don't mind having a Q plate.

I appreciate all the comments but really I'm just after some pictures of what other people have done. Anymore would be appreciated.

Thanks

Surely there is no needs for pictures of what others have done, it will be standard series bodywork mounted to the top of the chassis with standard either defedner/disco/range rover running gear mounted to the bottom.

The possible challenge will be getting the engine and gearbox to fit around the series body work, but this has been done before, and for that you would be better off looking at series engine and/or gearbox conversion threads.

If you are looking for others experiences I feel the chassis issue is throwing people off as for everyone on this thread, myself included, that is the biggest problem you will face. If that is not something you are worried because you are happy go through the now very stringent IVA test for a Q plate or run it on a dodgy ID, you would be better off breaking down the problems you are worried about to get more relevant input.

This one is an 99 coiler, V8 and LT-95, but no reason a Tdi couldn't look the same (depending where the engine is you might have to go for a Defender rad panel and bonnet).
