I thought of doing that as I really don't see the harm in it, but Rave said fit dry....so it went on dry.

I think it may depend engine spec and which rave file you read.

One question that occurs to me is of the engines where the bolt has let go or has been found to be loose how many are 10p and how many are 15p.
When did LR start to get a grip on this problem.
I understand it featured on a TV consumer program years ago but LR tried to pass it off as a non event

Yes

I did it yesterday on my 15p engine. It was not loose but also not so tight, was easy to remove. I did not see any sign of thread lock on the old bolt.
