hi guys time for a bit of advice.
my mate has an E reg 3.5 efi v8 Vogue that he is willing to sell me for mates rates.he is a machine fitter so does all his own serving etc. and seems to be very good at it(at least he is at work).Would this car be suitable for a bit of cheap and cheerful off roading cos I was looking to get a diesel disco/90?What sort of fording capabilities does it have?thanks!
Havent much response to this elsewhere so posted it here too

It'll be good and cheerful but forget the cheap bit round town you'll struggle to get better than 15mpg on a run it'll goto 20/24mpg if you don't boot it. off road if it's muddy or steep you'll be looking at 8/9mpg.

V8 + Water = £££££££££'s unless you are very very careful and seal everything up properly. Petrols don't like water as they need electrics to keep em running whereas diesels don't.

yeah I wil do about 3000 mile a year max in it.Ive got a car for every day and a van for work so it'll be used 10 weekends a year-ish

I find it better to think in terms of £s per W/E rather than MPG. Then you can compare it with alternative activities like watching ManU, playing golf or whatever.
I worked with a guy who was a twitcher, and would think nothing of hiring a car and going to the Scilly Isles for the w/e if a rare bird was spotted, & he though I had an expensive hobby.
Only think in terms of MPG if it is your only motor so have to drive to work in it, but still take into account repairs/servicing, insurance and deprecation. Unless your a very himiler it can still work out cheaper

Yeah on the weekend i either take the wife shopping I would spend £70-100 on what she wanted and lunch, or go drinking and have a meal £100-150.But if im driving then it equals about the same if I do a pay and play and a bit of petrol.Plus I would be drinking so health benfits too!
sounbs like im trying to sell it to myself!

RRCs wre the first vehicles over lots of wet places in the pacific (not actually IN the pacific, more that area) so it can be done. If its for ****s and giggles, a V8 is a nice drive (when it goes) and makes a lovely noise

10years too late.

I bought another RRC 3.9, used and a little abused it for several years until I couldn't get it through a mot without a lot of work then sold it. Was good, and didn't mind water too much. Did violets lane in it a couple of times.
