Hi all , I have a 2002 , l322 that I have to admit have not been using a lot lately, the battery has been disconnected for about 3 weeks ( always do when not using ) went out yesterday connected her up and nothing on the key remote , and would not let me turn . tried to lock and unlock but nothing no lights on the key . changed the battery in the key and that works will lock and unlock but still wont turn in the barrel . I have checked and the transponder is in the key . anyone else had this problem or know what it might be , looking on line and also asking about I am being told the transponder has lost its program and will need to go to a dealer to be reset , does that sound right ?

Not heard of the transponder losing it's program, it doesn't have a program, but I have heard of the transponder chip falling out.
It's better to not disconnect the battery and use a maintenance charger or solar panel to keep the battery topped up.

The transponder in the key is a small piece of black plastic loose inside....easy to misplace - if you are sure that is still present and the car battery is fully charged, have you tried turning the key about 10deg, then back to ) and then see if it will turn all the way?

Do you hear the steering lock release when the key is in the barrel (or very near it)? if so, but the key won't turn, the barrel lock solenoid is stuck - if you don't hear it then either the tinductor coil arounf the key barrel is duff, connections are loose, or there is a fuse blown.

thanks for the replies the transponder is in the key but I cant hear the steering lock , I will check the fuse number 18?? if not guess I will have to dig about a bit more
