Firstly, will a FL with roof rails in place work in a standard automatic car wash?

Secondly, is this where you’d expect the temperature gauge to be after a 85-mile run in around 10degrees?

1) Should do,
2) Your stat has probably failed. Lots of threads on here about a mod to sort it, or you can replace the factory stat which is a pain.

Never use a car wash so can not help you with that one but as for the second I agree with kernowsvenski your thermostat has had it . Mine was the same had it replaced and it is much better now . I had the original one replaced but as has been mentioned there is a mod for the stat ,there are lots of threads about it

I would not chance it in a car but my friend has and your gauge we mine sometimes does that but the thermostat is ok I have since found out it has something to do with the earth to the dash, as I thumped the dash and everything work ok after that but doing the thermostat is a pain but if I did a by pass I would take the original one out any way.

The temperature reading should be bang on 12.00oclock after about a 5 miles run, do the inline stat, no need to remove the original unless it is leaking and then you would just put in a new one thus doing away with the inline stat, once you get it sorted which should be asap due to the cold weather we are going to get, your MPG should be a bit better to.

I can confirm that it works well. I had very little heat until I added the second stat. I am now cosy in winter. :D

Yer need to edit the fred title to something more appropriate. If not it becomes useless in a search.

Roof bars int a problem fer auto car wash but they're not kind to yer paintwork. Huge blast of TFR traffic film remover. Strips wax and the brushes will scratch paint work. Hand wash it with noodle mitts and the 2 bucket method int stead.
